Carson City deputies arrest mentally ill man for domestic battery, obstruction
A 41-year-old Carson City man was arrested in the area of Airport Road and Woodside for domestic battery first and obstructing a public officer.
According to the report, the man was arrested after deputies were dispatched to a residence regarding a domestic battery in progress. Dispatch advised that the suspect was hitting the reporting party.
Dispatch also advised that the man was mentally ill, and had made a comment that he would “get a knife so the cops would kill him.”
On scene, deputies found the suspect walking away from the residence and asked him to stop, but he continued to walk away. He then began punching himself in the face repeatedly, and was almost struck by several vehicles in the roadway. He said there were voices in his head telling him to run away from law enforcement.
At one point, the man began running and tripped on the asphalt and fell to the ground, according to the report. He was then placed into custody. In the patrol car, he began to slam his head against the safety glass and metal cage. Carson City Fire Department was called to sedate the man.
He was taken to the hospital for medical assessment.
Deputies spoke with the reporting party, who said that when they returned to the residence from a graveyard shift, they had found the man standing in the doorway “like a zombie.” When asked to clarify, they said the man was “drunk and high and zoned out.”
Deputies noticed a marijuana bong on the kitchen counter. The reporting party stated they walked past the man to their bedroom to change out of their work clothes, and when they turned around they saw the man standing in the doorway of their bedroom.
The man said he wanted to be taken to BHS (Behavioral Health Services). The reporting party said they did not want to take the man to BHS because they knew he was “playing the game.”
The reporting party then stated that the man began punching himself in the face, then proceeded to punch a hole in the bedroom door. He then got in the reporting party’s face and tried to choke them. They were taken to the ground and punched in the left side of their face.
Deputies noticed red marks on the reporting party’s neck similar to gouge marks.
The deputies collected the reporting party’s statement and took the man into custody.
