Carson City arrests: Man with warrants jailed for giving officer false ID

A 26-year-old man was arrested early Wednesday morning for allegedly providing false identification to avoid prosecution and two misdemeanor contempt of court warrants, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Arrested in the 3600 block of Goni Road was Cody James Abernathy of Gardnerville.

According to the booking report, a sheriff’s deputy was conducting a business check at a casino and made contact with a person inside seated at a gaming machine and actively gambling. The male appeared to look under the age of 21 to the deputy, who then asked him for identification.

The man said he left his identification in his vehicle. He provided a name with a date of birth of January 1992. Dispatch informed the officer they could not locate the name in the DMV database.

The officer suspected the man wasn’t telling the truth and further questioned him. The man was asked if he had a warrant. He denied having a warrant or a reason to lie. The officer observed a pocket knife and requested the man remove the knife before a pat down search for additional weapons, the report states.

During the pat search the officer located a wallet in his rear pocket and asked him if there was identification inside. The man denied having identification, the report states.

The officer continued to ask the man what his name was. The suspect then removed his wallet and handed the officer an ID card with his real name on it. He stated he had warrants and did not want to go to jail and stated the man’s name he had given the deputy was a friend of his and that he attempted to provide his information to the officer.

Dispatch informed the deputy the man had two confirmed warrants out of Carson City Justice Court for failure to appear. Both were misdemeanors and both warrants listed a no bail hold. Both warrants were signed Oct. 25, 2018. He was arrested for providing false ID to avoid prosecution, a felony. Bail: $10,000 for the charge and a “no bail” hold for the warrants.

In other arrests:
— A 42-year-old Carson City man was arrested Tuesday, 11:33 p.m. in the area of East Telegraph and Roop streets for misdemeanor probation violation, a sheriff’s deputy said.

According to the arrest report, deputies were called to the area regarding an intoxicated subject reportedly involved in a dispute and was last seen walking on Telegraph Street. Deputies made contact with the man who fit the description given by dispatch.

A deputy explained his reason for the contact. The person said he understood. While speaking the deputy could smell an odor of alcohol on the man’s breath, the arrest report states.

He was checked through Carson City dispatch. It was learned he was under supervision with the Department of Alternative Sentencing with a “no drinking” clause related to two cases. He provided a preliminary breath test with a .201 result. The Department of Alternative Sentencing requested a hold on the man for violation of conditions and he was taken into custody. Bail: $6,000.

— A 64-year-old Carson City woman was arrested early Wednesday morning for gross misdemeanor indecent exposure for allegedly urinating in public and a misdemeanor warrant for violation of a suspended sentence.

According to the arrest report a deputy was conducting foot patrol in the area of 1700 North Carson Street. During the patrol the officer observed a woman exit the room, pull down her pants and urinate outside her front door in the public area of the motel.

The deputy made contact with the woman, who had her pants around her ankles and private parts exposed to the general public, the arrest report states. The woman pulled up her pants when she finished urinating and identified herself. She told the officer she had to go to the bathroom and her restroom in the room was being used.

A second female exited the room and identified herself. She stated the woman had a history of urinating outside. She further stated that the woman did not attempt to use the restroom before going outside. The woman informed the officer the woman was mentally sound and knew it wasn’t right to urinate in public. The suspect had a confirmed misdemeanor warrant for violation of a suspended sentence and she was placed under arrest. Bail: $3,500.
