Scott Parker is new Carson City area AAA branch manager
CARSON CITY — Scott Parker has joined the Carson City branch of AAA as the branch manager. He will oversee the 10 employees and office operations related to insurance, travel and memberships of the century-old-plus company. He started on Jan. 14.
Parker, who hails from Medford, Ore., has a long history of management in the insurance industry. This includes a 26-year stint with Farmers Insurance Group in different capacities. He last worked as a district sales manager after serving as a reserve district manager and agency owner as an independent agent.
The 50-year-old executive was attracted to the AAA brand and image in deciding to make the move from one major insurance company to the next.
“First of all, I was always impressed with AAA – that AAA customer loyalty to the AAA brand,” he said.
He cited the times when he worked as an agent for Farmers and tried to compete for the business. The AAA customers would refrain from leaving based on all the other products and services the company offers such as maps, books TripTiks mapping programs and other travel benefits.
“(AAA) has a strong reputation, and they’ve been around for a long time. That was always a tough sell (in getting them to switch),” he said. “I think our products are very competitive in the marketplace. Between the strength of the membership and the strength of our product line, we align ourselves really well with the needs of the community.
Parker plans to dive into the inner workings of the AAA operation and Northern Nevada and California communities ranging from Silver Springs and Washoe Valley to Gardnerville and Stateline. With its customer base being centered in Carson City, the AAA office also writes and services policies in California, in particular the area
surrounding the Sierra Nevada.
The husband, father and philanthropist intends to get involved with the community as he has in the past. He was a member of the Rotary Club in Oregon and would like to do the same here. He also is intrigued with the idea of his office tackling a community sponsorship through the school districts. He’d also liked to be tied to a charitable organization.
Parker has loaned his volunteerism to March of Dimes, Support Kids Unlimited, YMCA and school basketball and baseball teams.
A hard worker, Parker joined the U.S. Department of Defense upon graduating from college and “fell into insurance.” He graduated from a computer drafting school, along with attending California State University, Chico.
When Parker isn’t working, he enjoys skiing, waterskiing, golfing and camping. Parker is enthusiastic about driving an ambitious staff of four support staff and six agents.
With over 100 years of providing travel and insurance services, AAA – which is based in Emeryville, Calif. – is the industry leader in roadside assistance. The company insures one in four vehicles in Northern California.
The Carson City office handles insurance policies in auto, home, rental property, mobile and manufactured homes, watercraft, motorcycle, renters, life and annuities. Rivera books worldwide travel packages.
The company is constantly evolving in its product line. Its mainstay revolves around membership offering maps and tourbooks to the wayward traveler.
AAA Carson City is located at 2901 S. Carson St. in Carson City and can be reached at (775) 888-6400.
