Carson City Sheriff’s Office Saturday checkpoint: No DUI arrests, 24 citations issued
A DUI and motorist compliance checkpoint conducted by the Carson City Sheriff’s Office had at least 1,887 vehicles go through Saturday that resulted in 24 citations and four vehicles that were impounded for driver’s license or vehicle registration violations, a Carson City sheriff’s sergeant said.
The checkpoint was conducted on William Street near Mills Park from around 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. There were no DUI related arrests, said Sgt. Scott McDaniel.
During the first hour of the operation, 337 motorists went through, the second hour, 582 and third hour, 630 motorists. But as word spread, those numbers dropped substantially, with 148 vehicles in the fourth hour, 159 in the fifth hour and 31 in the final hour, said McDaniel.
A few motorists had tried to go around the checkpoint, before Mills Park via the Carson City Community Center and Roop Street, said McDaniel. DUI saturation patrols were also conducted during the operation. The checkpoint was held independently and was not associated with the Nevada Department of Public Safety’s Joining Forces campaign.
