Carson City arrests: Woman jailed for suspected DUI, speeding 50 mph in 25 mph zone
A 39-year-old Las Vegas woman was arrested in the 2700 block of N. Carson Street for DUI first, driving with an open container, and basic speed 21-30 mph over the limit, a Carson City sheriff's deputy report states.
According to the report, the woman was arrested after being initially stopped for driving 50 mph in a 25 mph zone. Deputies caught up to the vehicle and activated their overhead lights before observing the vehicle drift toward the center divider and nearly collide with the median.
The vehicle then abruptly swerved to the right, causing the vehicle’s passenger side tires to cross over the broken white line that divides the lanes. The vehicle then made a U-Turn before pulling to the shoulder of North Carson Street, the report states.
Deputies made contact with the woman and reported they were able to smell a strong odor of alcohol coming from her person as she spoke. She had slightly red, watery eyes and slurred speech. She agreed to perform field sobriety tests.
Six out of six clues of impairment were observed during the horizontal gaze test, five out of eight clues of impairment were observed during the walk and turn test, and she was unable to complete the one leg stand test, the report states.
She refused to provide a preliminary breath test, even after deputies informed her her license would be suspended for up to one year for failing to submit to evidence. They told her they would be applying for a search warrant in order to retrieve a blood sample. She was taken into custody without incident. Bail: $1,646
