Eyes On Carson City: Kitty love, doggy kisses
In a weekend prelude to Valentine's Day, animal rescue organizations staged adoption events in Carson City Saturday to spread a little kitty and puppy love.
The Nevada Human Society hosted Furry Speed Dating on Saturday. Cat adoptions were the focus as a class of children visited to read to the felines.
At Petsmart off Fairview and South Carson Street, Dog Town Rescue held an adoption event, featuring several eligible canines.
There was Hercules, a 10 year-old Staffordshire Terrier who has been with Dog Town for about two years, volunteers said.
Friendly and affectionate, Hercules appeared to get along very well with other canines at Petsmart.
Then there was Rocco, an 18 month-old full grown dog who came to Carson City from Iran, where he was rescued from being killed by city workers there.
Dog Town volunteers said Rocco was the only member of his litter to survive, including his mother. He suffered an injury to his muzzle that became infected and required surgery.
Another adoptable pooch was two year-old Slim, a sleek Chihuaha mix with long, slender legs. Slim is currently being fostered through Dog Town Rescue, a Carson City-based canine rescue and adoption organization.
For more information about these or other dogs available for adoption through Dog Town Rescue, call 775-230-3703 or visit the organization's web site here.
