NNDA announces new organization changes
Northern Nevada Development Authority announced Thursday that Valerie Melendez has been named as the new Tribal Economic Development Director and Tonya Champa as the Investor Relations Director.
Rob Hooper, NNDA Executive Director, announced Monday January 16 that Champa would be the Investor Relations Director. Hooper Stated “Tonya is an exceptional addition to the NNDA team. Her experience will prove an invaluable asset.”
Champa has lived in Nevada for 32 years and was raised on ranches in Washoe Valley. She was a high school and college rodeo competitor and Miss Reno Rodeo 2004-2005. She and her husband now reside in Lyon County along with their son, dogs, horses, chickens and pigs! Champa brings an extensive amount of experience and education to her role with NNDA. She previously worked for the Nevada Appeal in Carson City, Nevada, as the Advertising Director and is a graduate of the University of Nevada, Reno with a major in marketing and a minor in communications.
NNDA also announces that Valerie Meléndez will be the new Tribal Economic Development Director.
Meléndez has been with NNDA since 2014 in the role of Investor Relations. She has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Nevada, Reno. Hooper said “NNDA is eager to expand our work with the native tribes, and Valerie is an ideal candidate for this position as she is a Northern Paiute and member of Reno Sparks Indian Colony.”
Ms. Meléndez’s goal is to partner and collaborate with the Nevada Tribal Leaders and Communities to help them take control of their economic vitality strategies. This new tribal economic development program was launched to support each tribal community to become economically independent while maintaining the values and integrity of the tribal culture and heritage and therefore, their future success.
