121st annual Audubon Christmas Bird Count in Carson Valley area this Saturday
The 121st annual Audubon Christmas Bird Count will be held this Saturday Jan. 2, 2021. This event is counting all birds with a 15 mile diameter circle covering the area contained approximately by the Carson River on the north, the Pine Nut foothills on the East, Bodie Flats on the South and Foothill Road on the West.
The volunteers will meet at the River Fork Ranch Preserve (RFRP) at 7 a.m. and run until 4 p.m. The address of RFRP is 381 Genoa Lane, 2.5 mies West of Highway 395 or 1.5 miles East of Genoa center.
The Nevada Covid-19 protocols will be complied with. Masks are mandatory as is social distancing. There will be no ride sharing so each family and or pod will be in one car. We can caravan into the areas and maintain distancing when out of the vehicles.
Volunteers should have transportation, binoculars, scopes, bird guide, apps, water and snacks for the day. This year there will be no morning coffee, Tally Dinner or Feeder Watch. Volunteers will stay in their cars upon arrival and I will distribute the maps, survey sheets to vehicle.
There will be a collection box on the porch of the RFR for collection the survey results after you have completed your count. For information and to sign up contact Jim Woods, 775-720-7009, jim.woods@charter.net.
