2013 Nevada Reads: 'girlchild' by Tupelo Hassman
Nevada Center for the Book and the Carson City Library will present author Tupelo Hassman on Thursday, Nov. 14 at 11 a.m. Hassman’s first novel, "girlchild," is written in a compelling style of short chapters, redacted pages, and gut-wrenching narrative. The Nevada Reads event is sponsored by the Nevada Center for the Book and Nevada Humanities.
Nevada Humanities Scholar Dr. Reginald Stewart will participate in this book discussion, as well. A focus of discussion will be on the eugenics of generational poverty.
Tupelo Hassman’s work has appeared in The Boston Globe, Harper’s Bazaar, Imaginary Oklahoma, The Independent, The Paris Review Daily, and many more. Ms. Hassman is the first American to ever win London’s Literary Death Match. She lives in San Francisco’s East Bay.
This program is funded in part by Nevada Humanities, Nevada’s nonprofit state council affiliate of the National endowment for the Humanities.
“Your Knowledge and Discovery Place”, Carson City Library, open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., is located at the corner of Roop and Washington Streets.
