Muscle Powered Saturday hike to explore new trail: Clear Creek from Spooner Summit
This new section, constructed by the Carson Valley Trails Association, begins at Spooner Summit, and ends near the trailhead to the Clear Creek Connector Trail close to Golf Club Drive at U.S. Highway 50 West.
The trailhead begins from Spooner Summit on the south side of the Highway 50 parking area, and heads downhill past fantastic views of valleys on the Eastern side of the Sierras. The trail travels through pine trees, aspens, manzanita, and a variety of diverse plant communities. The final two miles take us away from Clear Creek, and put us on the Clear Creek Connector Trail. We finish at cars parked along Golf Club Drive.
The entire activity will be approximately six-plus hours, which includes transportation from Carson City, plus hike and lunch time. This hike is for fit hikers. The trail is predominantly downhill, but is nine miles.
Meet to carpool or caravan at 8 a.m. at the parking area off of Golf Club Drive. See map link on Google calendar. We will divide the cars to shuttle hikers to Spooner Summit Trailhead, and then drive back to Spooner Summit at the end of the hike to pick up cars.
Sorry, no dogs on our weekend hikes. Required: Closed-toed hiking shoes, a minimum 2 quarts or more of water, and lunch and snacks. Hiking poles, sunscreen, and hat are highly recommended. Contact for more information, Jo Foster, jf.prairie@gmail.com, or Larry Marinel, larryamarinel@gmail.com.
This Muscle Powered's 'Last Saturday hike' is moved to Oct. 20 in order to avoid conflicts with celebrations on Nevada Day.
