MINDEN — The Carson Valley Trails Association invites the public to attend our 2022 Annual Meeting & Member Celebration this Wednesday, May 25th, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Held at the Douglas County Community and Senior Center, the evening will feature trails information and updates, complimentary refreshments, raffle prizes, and a no-host bar.

Heading into the middle of the work work, more sunny skies and warm temperatures are on tap for Wednesday with highs in the mid-60s. Activities around town include a yoga class offered through Carson Tahoe Health and Wellness, a midweek meditation series offered at Carson City Yoga, a firearms course, plus Salsa dancing at Yaple's Ballroom, country and pop dancing at Carson Lanes, a safety workshop for women, a Carson Valley Trails Association celebration more.

The Carson Valley Trails Association (CVTA) will host the organization’s annual meeting and member celebration on Wednesday, March 4, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., at the Douglas County Community and Senior Center, 1329 Waterloo Lane, Gardnerville.

The evening will feature trails information and updates, complimentary refreshments, raffle prizes, and a no-host bar. The event is free and open to the public.

The Nevada Outdoor Experience is co-sponsored by the Wild Sheep Foundation and the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. The goal of the free event is to excite and inspire the next generation of outdoor enthusiasts.

The Old West Trio returns to the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park this coming week in an evening concert, while two local musicians are featured at the park’s upcoming Neighbor Fair, an event highlighting Carson Valley’s non-profit organizations.

Headed into Saturday, April 27, 2019 we're looking at another picture-perfect spring weather day and cool overnight temperatures. There's lots of activities ahead, including a colorful fun run at Mills Park, a free paper and document recycling event hosted by Debug Computer, a prescription drug roundup, the Silver State's own celebration of the Aloha State, a Carson High School speech team fundraiser at Flavors of India, art showings and sales and a fundraiser at Flat Earth Pizza for a wonderful Carson City woman who is in the throes of cancer. Join us for a beautiful seven-mile hike, with five water crossings and stunning views, on the Genoa Canyon Trail in Carson Valley. We will hike on part of the Genoa Trail System built by Carson Valley Trails Association, a hiking gem in Carson Valley.

Good morning, Carson City, and welcome to the last weekend of February!

This Saturday is all about film appreciation around the area. The Carson City International Film Festival wraps up today inside the newly renovated Bob Boldrick Theater at the Carson City Community Center, while the Tahoe Adventure Film Festival occurs at CVIC Hall in Minden.

Please join us for a 5-mile round-trip snowshoe trek in the Clear Creek watershed area just three miles west of Carson City!

We will hike on the Clear Creek Connector Trail that intersects with the longer Clear Creek Trail. Both trails built by Carson Valley Trails Association. Meet 8:00 am at Hwy 50 Park-and-ride just west of Hwy 50/US395 interchange. We will carpool three miles to the Golf Course Drive parking area near the trailhead. Dogs are not allowed on this hike.

Thanksgiving and Black Friday may be behind us, but Small Business Saturday is still ahead. Today consider shopping local to support small businesses in Carson City and surrounding communities. Small business Saturday deals can be found inside the Carson Mall, in downtown Carson City and at small businesses throughout the Nevada state capital.

Ready to hike off that Thanksgiving feast? Come join Muscle Powered for a Late Fall Hike to Pinyon Trail in Carson Valley, south of Carson City. This gently rolling 5.2 mile intermediate hike provides majestic views of Carson Valley, Job's Peak and the beautiful surrounding mountains.

Nevada Day and the big parade are just one week away, but first is the annual Carson City Ghost Walk this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in downtown Carson City.

This new section, constructed by the Carson Valley Trails Association, begins at Spooner Summit, and ends near the trailhead to the Clear Creek Connector Trail close to Golf Club Drive at U.S. Highway 50 West.

The year 1968 was one of turmoil. The Vietnam War was intensifying, and protests were increasing back home. Martin Luther King Jr. and presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy were both assassinated. Urban riots were common, and college unrest was widespread.

A very happy Tuesday to you. The Classic Cinema Club is changing it up a little tonight. Their showing of ‘Lawrence of Arabia’ is going to begin an hour earlier than usual, due to its length. Don’t worry, though, the trivia portion will take place during intermission, instead of before the film. The Carson Valley Trails Association is hosting their annual meeting and social in the Douglas County Community Center. If you’re curious about exploring the hills south of Carson, this is the perfect place to learn more.

Join us for a 5-mile loop hike on a trail south of Genoa called Fay-Luther. This is a wonderful trail built by the Carson Valley Trails Association winding up the foothills of the western mountains for beautiful views to the east and up the Carson Valley.

If you happen to be up very early on Saturday morning, you may just see some runners in the pre-dawn hours. The Reno-Tahoe Odyssey, a 178 mile relay, passes through Carson City on its way to Virginia City. A huge congratulations goes out to the Class of 2017; the Carson High graduates will get their diplomas today. It’s wine walk weekend, so downtown will be hopping with sippers, strollers, and plenty of summer fun. Keep reading, and you’re sure to find something to make this weekend special.

The Carson Valley Trails Association will present Carson Valley Trails Day, a celebration of the American Hiking Society's National Trails Day, on Saturday, June 3. Events are planned at two trails - the Fay-Luther Trail in Gardnerville and the Bently Heritage Trail in Minden.

It’s a blast from the past today. Longtime locals remember the Penguin quite fondly. The folks at Westside Pour House have been entrusted with their taco recipe and will be serving them up today. Continue your trip to yesteryear with the Carson City Classic Cinema Club. Capital City Arts Initiative welcomes art writer, Chérie Louise Turner to their Nevada Neighbors program. Carson City bicycle and pedestrian advocates were recently recognized by the Nevada Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Board at its 14th annual awards program.

Donna Inversin of Muscle Powered and Jeremy Vican of Carson Valley Trails Association were selected as advocacy and advocates of the year; Carson City Visitor Bureau Executive Director Joel Dunn was picked in the division of Trails Association Event Planning Promotion for his work organizing Epic Rides and Cortney Bloomer, organizer of Western Nevada Safe Routes to School, was honored with a Special Achievement award for her work.

Whoa doggy, what a weekend. Dayton Valley Days, the Steampunk Ball and Parade in Virginia City, and the Western Heritage Festival at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park are just the tip of the iceberg. Whether it’s in Carson City, or just over the hill in one of our neighboring counties, you’ll find something fun to do. Read on.

The Carson Valley Trails Association, in partnership with The Nature Conservancy and the Carson Valley Medical Center, will present its 8th annual Hike for Health Day on Saturday, September 17, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., at The Nature Conservancy’s River Fork Ranch, located east of the Town of Genoa at 381 Genoa Lane.

This is no sleepy Sunday. Genoa will be a fun place to explore with their monthly Sweet Sippin Sunday stroll and Art in the Park. Jazz and Beyond Music Festival continues with four bands out at the Silver Saddle Ranch in conjunction with a celebration of 20 years of the Quality of Life Initiative. Keep reading: there’s something for everyone.

Are you ready for the weekend? The weekend is sure ready for you with the monthly Downtown Wine Walk, the final Levitt Amp Concert the Brewery Arts Center, and the Wild West Rodeo at Fuji Park. Live music galore, classic cars, theater, dancing and so much more await. Continue on for the low down.

Put on your cowboy boots and head to Carson Lanes for some line dancing. Square dancing in Genoa is free your first time; dress casual and go do-si-do. The Performance Hall at the Brewery Arts Center is where you’ll find the Carson City Classic Cinema Club’s viewing of Meet John Doe with Gary Cooper.

First things first. Saturday afternoon could be expecting some wet weather, so be prepared. I can’t predict what events may be affected by it, or if the rain will even show up. No worries for you wine walkers, though, downtown will be hopping: rain, shine, or blizzard. Head over to Artsy Fartsy Art Gallery and wish them a happy fourth anniversary, Jeffery will be serving up one of his signature Sangrias. St. Peter’s Episcopal Church won best wine walk stop last month and will have live music. Don’t forget to spend some time inside Westside Pour House: ARTistically INKlined pop-up gallery returns and proves that tattoo artists are first, and foremost, artists.
