Chautauqua performer Lisa Bommarito will present “The Extraordinary Life of Eilley Orrum Bowers” at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park on Wednesday August 5, at 6:30 pm.

The event is open to the public and free to attend.

What a crazy week in the Sierras! Afternoon thunderstorms for the last several days, flooding, hail, and even snow in Yosemite are definitely unusual for this time of year. The storms are expected to subside this weekend, so keep your fingers crossed for some sunshine. Break a leg to the Proscenium Players as they open Murder in an English Manor at the Brewery Arts Center. Senior Follies debuts this year’s performance, Flashback, at the Community Center.

A 53-year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday on a felony charge of battery with a deadly weapon after allegedly ramming another vehicle during a road rage incident, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

A second suspect identified in the June 1 armed robbery of a Carson City woman was arrested Friday morning after investigators received an anonymous tip that he was hiding inside a car, a Carson City sheriff’s lieutenant said.

Ricky Adams, 29, was found inside a vehicle hiding underneath blankets in the 1100 block of Thompson Street, said Carson City Sheriff’s Office Lt. Brian Humphrey.

Fourth of July on the Comstock in historic Virginia City, Nev. promises one of the region’s longest firework displays. Echoing off Mt. Davidson at 6,200 feet elevation, the “kaboom” rocks the old 1850s historic mining community as the fireworks soar high above the town and Six Mile Canyon, making it visible from nearly anywhere in town.

Western Nevada College has named 322 students to the Dean’s List for the 2015 spring semester. To qualify for WNC’s Dean’s List, students must complete at least 12 units during the semester and accumulate a grade point average of 3.50 or higher.

The weather app on my phone says that it’s supposed to be a sunny weekend hitting a high around 91 degrees. That sounds like summer to me! Get out and enjoy our valley and the surrounding towns, there will be plenty of good times. Carson Valley Days has begun in our neighbor to the south, complete with carnival at Lampe Park. Tonight, welcome a new exhibit in the CCAI Gallery at the Courthouse: a reception for the artists of ‘Industrial Arts’ begins at 5 p.m. Meet the Journey of Hope bike riders at Western Nevada College; plenty of activities for everyone.

Here are the graduates of Carson High School, class of 2015. Looking outward to their message left at C Hill, the class of more than 400 walked proudly Saturday through the Carson City CHS football field. With the turn of the tassel and throw of their mortarboards, the students turned high school graduates. Congratulations, class of 2015.

Chautauqua performer Steve Hale will present “George Whittell, Jr." at the Dangberg Historic Ranch Home, Wednesday, June 10 at 6:30 p.m. This is a free outdoor event. The park is located at 1450 Hwy 88, ¼ mile north of the Carson Valley Veterinary Hospital. Visitors are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or use one of the park’s chairs. Dogs are not permitted in the park, with the exception of certified service animals.

Western Nevada College has announced that it will graduate 515 students for the 2014-15 academic year. The 2015 commencement ceremony will take place on Monday, May 18, 11 a.m. at the Marv Teixieira Pavilion in Mills Park, in Carson City.

The class of 2015 will receive 568 degrees and certificates.

If you’ve driven down Williams St., you’ve seen the RSVP Spring Festival and Carnival. It will be there all weekend, so you’ve got a few days to indulge in cotton candy and fried twinkees.

With the start and finish line at Heavenly’s California Base Lodge, spectators will be updated with live race announcements, and entertained with high-energy music, local and Amgen Tour of California exhibitors, food and beverage.

Freshman outfielder Bradley Lewis delivered Western Nevada College's second walk-off victory of the 2015 season on Friday afternoon against Utah State University Eastern. Lewis stroked a walk-off double to score Jon Guzman as the Wildcats rallied for a 7-6 baseball victory over the Golden Eagles at John L. Harvey Field in Carson City.

More than 80 Western Nevada College students earned induction into the Phi Theta Kappa national honor society during ceremonies on Wednesday, April 22 at the Carson Nugget Hall on WNC’s Carson City Campus and Friday,

An 18-year-old Carson City man was arrested Tuesday in the 2000 block of Lone Mountain on suspicion of battery with a deadly weapon after allegedly stabbing a male victim in the head, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Western Nevada College found the tonics Friday to end a four-game road losing: a prolific first inning and one tough out in Kody Reynolds. The Wildcats scored four times in the first en route to an 11-4 Scenic West Athletic Conference baseball victory over Colorado Northwestern Community College in Rangely, Colo.

The Carson Chamber Singers, directed by Michael Langham, continues its 30th season with a pair of Spring Concerts in Carson City and Reno.
The first concert will be on Saturday, March 21, at 7:30 p.m., at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 314 N. Division Street in in Carson City.

Self-driving cars, robotic bees, soccer playing robots and crowd-sourcing information are just a few things on which new University of Nevada, Reno, mathematics and statistics professor Raul Rojas Gonzalez spends his time.

He comes to Nevada by way of a Visiting Fellowship at the Center for Information Technology Policy at Princeton and Freie University Berlin, Germany where he has been a professor of artificial intelligence and robotics.

Are you ready to paint the town green? St. Patrick’s Day quickly approaches and there will be plenty of Irish action throughout town. The festivities start this weekend with the annual Rocky Mountain Oyster Fest in Virginia City, complete with a parade and saloon crawl.

Carson High School HOSA: Future Health Professionals, presented a check Tuesday to the Carson Tahoe Cancer Foundation. The club members raised and donated $350 to go toward breast cancer research/awareness by selling breast cancer awareness lanyards at $3 each in November.

Even though newspapers tend to fall by the wayside these days, Scott Faughn, publisher of The Missouri Times, and Elizabeth Thompson, politics and policy reporter, are resurrecting the Territorial Enterprise, Nevada’s first newspaper.

Enjoy a scenic, adventurous snowshoe trek which can be enjoyed by history buffs and family alike. This special snowshoe event, put on by the Tahoe Rim Trail Association, will take participants over historic parts of the famous trail used by the legendary Snowshoe Thompson, between Genoa, Nev. and Placerville, Calif.

Such beautiful weather this week. True to Nevada luck, the chill returns in time for the weekend. Keep your fingers crossed that the storm front brings some precipitation our way. One place it’s seasonally appropriate is the Nevada Artist Association Gallery at the Brewery Arts Center. They will be hosting an artists’ reception for their new Winter Art Show Saturday evening.
