On June 21, the Carson City Leadership Institute Class of 2018 graduated at the Chamber’s Annual Meeting.

What better way to celebrate Earth Day and Earth Week than gorgeous weather that you just can’t help but enjoy. Join Muscle Powered and our Parks and Recreation Department at the Silver Saddle Ranch for a presentation and trash mob. Kids will love the Carnival at Bordewich Elementary School, and it helps raise funds for a local Cub Scout Pack. Mark Twain Elementary is hosting their annual Color Run at Mills Park, just make sure to wear a white shirt.

The Brewery Arts Center Celtic Series goes Scottish this Saturday as folk music by the acclaimed duo Alan Reid and Rob van Sante take center stage at Maizie Harris Black Box Theater in Carson City.

Mountaintop cameras from the University of Nevada, Reno spotted or tracked 240 fires in Nevada and California in 2017. This helped to keep firefighters more situationally aware and able to mount appropriate responses more rapidly over tens of thousands of square miles of forests and rangelands, including rural communities.

All instruments are welcome, in addition to vocalists and those who just want to listen.

The 18th Annual Snowshoe Thompson Ski & Snowshoe Celebration returns to the Sierras on Saturday, February 24 at 9:00 am, at the Lake Tahoe Golf Course in South Lake Tahoe.

Event activities begin with a guided, interactive historical reenactment tour over the snow, starting at 9:00 am with “Snowshoe Thompson” portrayed by Chautauquan Steve Hale. Attendees may bring their own snowshoes and cross country skis, or rent snowshoes from the Lake Tahoe Golf Course at a special price of $15.

Western Nevada College has named 322 students to the Fall 2017 Dean’s List. To earn this distinction, students must complete at least 12 units during the semester and accumulate a grade point average of 3.50 or higher.

University of Nevada Cooperative Extension 4-H Clubs held their 2016-2017 Awards Night at the Governor’s Mansion Nevada Room on Nov. 15. At least 100 4-H youth from Carson City and Storey County received recognition for their accomplishments during the year.

A 42-year-old Carson City woman was booked into Carson City Jail on Wednesday for a felony warrant alleging burglary and possession of stolen property, a Carson City sheriff's deputy said.

On Veterans Day, we take time to honor those men and women that have served in our armed forces. The holiday is observed today, meaning schools and public offices will be closed. Carson City schools are hosting a number of Veterans Day events Thursday to recognize and honor military men and women including display projects on the lawn at Carson Middle School. Veterans from all branches of military service are invited to view, or attend any of these events including local students and their families.
