I wish everyone luck keeping their triskaidekaphobia at bay. The number thirteen is nothing to fear, even when it falls on a Friday. (I’m not going to lie: triskaidekaphobia is one of my favorite words and I very rarely get the chance to use it in a sentence.) Mother Nature has thrown us for a loop this week, and we deserve the chance to enjoy the break in the storm. Take the family down to the Library for their game corner, or cheer on the talented cast of ‘The Lion King, Jr.’ at the Community Center.

Western Nevada College: 297 Students Make Fall Dean’s List

Western Nevada College has named 297 students to the Fall 2016 Dean’s List. For consideration to WNC’s Dean’s List, students must complete at least 12 units during the semester and accumulate a grade point average of 3.50 or higher. Honorees include:

Couple rescued, reunited with family after being stuck in snowy Sierra over weekend

A Yuba City, Calif., couple missing in the Sierra Nevada for two days were found Monday by a search and rescue team who followed tracks they saw on a U.S. Forest Service road.

Carson City arrests: Man jailed after deputies find fake $100 bill in wallet

A 26-year-old Carson City man was arrested Tuesday in the 3000 block of Highway 50 East for felony suspicion of being in possession of a counterfeit $100 bill and misdemeanor violation of pre-trial supervision.

Carson City and Lake Tahoe area road report for week of Oct. 24-30

Here is the Carson City area road report for the week of Oct. 24-30, 2016. This is the final week of work on the Downtown Corridor Improvement Project along Carson Street. The following streets will be impacted:

— Carson Street will be one lane in each direction with lane shifts through the week during daytime hours.

— Sunday night through Wednesday night starting at 8 p.m., there will be lane shifts for final striping.

— At this time, all side streets should be open.

Carson City's WNMTC to present ‘The Little Mermaid’ in November

Magic is bursting from Under the Sea as the acclaimed Western Nevada Musical Theatre Company (WNMTC) puts the final glittering touches on Disney’s Academy Award-winning “The Little Mermaid.” This Broadway blockbuster will play at the Carson City Community Center weekends, Nov. 4 through 20.

Find the perfect pumpkin at the annual Seeliger Elementary Pumpkin Patch. The long-awaited Animal Shelter has been built and is now home to adoptable pets waiting for a home: take a tour at their open house after the 10 a.m. ribbon cutting. NV Energy reports power outage on west side of south Carson Street

UPDATE: 3:55 PM: Power has been restored in Carson City after an outage earlier today affected an isolated area west of South Carson Street.

NV Energy reports a power outage Friday afternoon affecting customers west of South Carson Street.
As of about 1:50 p.m. there were 115 customers without power. See the map above. Calls to 911 dispatch were reports of people hearing an explosion in the area of Thompson Street, with lights flickering and then going out.

Sunday, Sept. 25: Things to do around Carson City

Street Vibes and the Candy Dance are always the endcap to September. Arts and crafts take over the small hamlet of Genoa this weekend; get a jump on your holiday gift list. All the other corners of Northern Nevada are a playground for the thousands of motorcycle riders and enthusiasts here to enjoy the bike rally. Battle Born Harley on Research Way offers a huge party without ever leaving the valley. Those two events are hardly all that Carson City and our neighboring counties have to offer, however. SERVICE, Drusilla “Drucy” J, 86, of Chester, VA, went home to be with her Lord peacefully surrounded by family July 31st, 2016.

Born on March 14, 1930 in Bolckow, MO, Drusilla spent her life in California, Nevada and Virginia. A beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, she had an unwavering and steadfast devotion to her family and to the Lord. Drusilla’s belief in goodness, her sense of optimism, and her belief that everything would be all right was an inspiration to all who knew her.

The Capital City Arts Initiative announces its exhibition, Print Project, at the Community Development Building [the Brick], 108 E Proctor Street, Carson City. Ten University of Nevada, Reno [UNR] student artists created the art posters in class earlier this summer. The building is open to the public daily, 8am – noon, 1-4pm. The free exhibition will remain in the building’s lobby exhibition space through August 29.

Western Nevada College graduates record number

Western Nevada College graduated its largest class ever Monday. A record 556 students earned a total of 598 degrees and certificates.

In a first, 27 graduates are high school students who participated in WNC’s Jump Start College program. These students are to receive their associate degrees prior to receiving their high school diplomas.

WNC Baseball: Wildcats go out swinging

The heart-tugging defeat might go down as the most memorable game Western Nevada College ever played on the baseball diamond; this for a program that won three Western District tournament titles and participated in three National Junior College Athletic Association World Series.

Business Spotlight: Experience the Old West in a new way at Eagle Mountain Trading Post

Toni Thompson has long had a love for the American West and its history. It shows both in the decor of her retail store and in the building she rents.

Thompson, owner of Eagle Mountain Trading Post at 110 S. Curry Street in Carson City, said she couldn't be happier running her business out of the historic structure that once served as a freight depot, livery and Overland Stage stop back in the early days of the Nevada state capital.

WNC Softball: Wildcats' hitting tear continues in Region 18 tournament

Kacie Freudenberger's home run leading off the second inning touched off a five-run outburst as Western Nevada College cruised past Colorado Northwestern, 18-1, in the opening game of the Region 18 softball tournament on Wednesday morning in Taylorsville, Utah.

WNC Baseball: Wildcats beat Coyotes twice but finish second

It was only fitting that Western Nevada College won its final game at John L. Harvey Field on a well-executed bunt by a power hitter.
Daniel Nist's two-out bunt along the third-base line brought home Chandler Barkdull, providing WNC with a 2-1 Scenic West Athletic Conference baseball victory over College of Southern Nevada on Friday in Carson City.
