Heading into the July 4 holiday weekend, there’s a number of activities around the Carson City region to celebrate. New safety guidelines for the state of Nevada have been enforced, so please make sure to bring a mask and practice social distancing.

The Brewery Arts Center will deliver live music directly to the citizens of Carson City while practicing social distancing once again this week. Miles Construction Company has generously donated the use of a Flatbed Truck and with financial support from The Change Companies, the Nauman Foundation, and Carson Tahoe Hospital, the BAC is proud to bring you Moxy Ruckus this 4th of July holiday from 6 to 9 p.m. in the neighborhood by Eagle Valley Middle School.

Storey County cancels Virginia City Fireworks amid COVID-19 concerns, Cruise to continue as planned

According to Storey County Commissioner Jay Carmona the fireworks show in Virginia City has been canceled today as of 1 p.m. The Cruise will be continuing as planned.

According to Carmona, there was an issue with releasing the cancellation announcement but the fireworks are indeed cancelled this year.

DETR: Regular Unemployment Insurance Claims Continue to Decline, PUA Initial Claims Rise

Finalized data from the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation (DETR) show initial claims for unemployment insurance (UI) totaled 10,347 for the week ending June 20, down 273 claims, or 2.6 percent, compared to last week’s total of 10,620. This is the eighth consecutive week of declines in regular initial claims.

Through the week ending June 20, there have been 538,892 initial claims filed in 2020, 517,240 of which have been filed since the week ending March 14.

The Carson City area added 300 new jobs in May over April, but is down in jobs overall for the year due to the COVID-19 shutdown as is Reno and Las Vegas, according to figures released Tuesday by the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation.

Carson City deputies arrest man on lewdness with a child, use of a minor as agent involving drugs

An Apple Valley, Calif. man was delivered to the Carson City Jail by U.S. Extraditions on three warrants.

Flynn Robert Gabriel, 36, was arrested on two felony warrants issued out of Carson City Justice Court. The first is for lewdness with a child under 14 years of age. The second is for use of a minor as agent involving drugs, both issued on April 17, 2020.

This is the seventh consecutive week of declines in regular initial claims. Through the week ending June 13, there have been 528,545 initial claims filed in 2020, 506,893 of which have come in the last fourteen weeks.

Greater Nevada Credit Union has awarded 31 Nevada students with scholarships to continue their academic pursuits through the GNCU Scholarship Program. $22,000 went to eleven students from the Carson City area.

Over 500,000 Regular Initial Claims Filed in 2020; Weekly Declines in Initial and Continued Claims for Second Consecutive Week

Finalized data from the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation (DETR) show initial claims for unemployment insurance (UI) totaled 11,337 for the week ending May 30, down 4,270 claims, or 27.4 percent compared to last week’s total of 15,607.

This is the fifth consecutive week of declines in regular initial claims. Through the week ending May 30, there have been 507,177 initial claims filed in 2020, 485,525 of which have come in the last twelve weeks.

Man accused of kidnapping, attempted sexual assault on a minor appears in court Friday

A man accused of kidnapping and attempted sexual assault of a minor appeared in court in Carson City Friday for his preliminary hearing.

Carson City Senior Judge John Tatro presided over the hearing of Kahlil Deshaun Williams, who is being accused of kidnapping, attempted sexual assault of a minor under 14, lewdness with a minor under 14, and false imprisonment.
