School zones, do you know how fast you are going? With the weather getting warmer, it is easy to forget that school is still in session and the speed zones are still in effect. When entering a school zone, pay attention to the 15 mile per hour (mph) posted limit or the flashing signal lights.

15 mph may seem like an eternity when driving in the zones but imagine how you would feel should you strike a child who is crossing the street. Where crossing guards are posted, pay attention to their directions. They are in place to keep you and the children safe.

Multiple Carson City emergency units called to injury crash on North Carson Street

UPDATE: Carson City Fire Department and sheriff's office patrol units were called Thursday night to a vehicle crash in the 3100 block of North Carson Street in which two were injured including an 11-year-old girl who was briefly trapped in a vehicle.

Carson City emergency responders called to crash with bicyclist at Lompa and College Parkway

Carson City Fire Department was called just after 4:30 p.m. to a vehicle crash involving a bicyclist at the intersection of Lompa Lane and College Parkway.

The bicycle rider, who was wearing a helmet, suffered minor cuts and bruises and was at fault in the crash, which happened when a pickup that was turning right onto Lompa Lane hit the bicyclist who went straight, said Carson City Sheriff's Office Sgt. Scott McDaniel.

Crash on William Street across from community center causes traffic delay

Carson City sheriff's deputies were called at around 5:10 p.m. to a two-vehicle crash on William Street across from the Carson City Community Center. The crash involves a white Suburban and a blue Mini Cooper, said Sheriff's Sgt. Scott McDaniel.
One lane of traffic is open. Motorists should expect delays. Minor injuries were reported. One person was taken into custody on suspicion of DUI.

Carson City sheriff's deputies investigate shots fired in domestic dispute on Pheasant Drive

UPDATE MONDAY: Two men were arrested Sunday night after a fight that resulted in gunfire at a Pheasant Drive residence. Matthew Joseph Premo, 20, was booked on suspicion of felony battery with a deadly weapon, assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a firearm by a person prohibited from having a firearm and misdemeanor minor consuming alcohol. Bail: $70,242. Also arrested was Andrew Austin Toland, 22. He faces a felony burglary charge and misdemeanor violation of probation conditions. He was treated for a ricochet wound to his ankle. Bail: $23,000.

Storms can make road visibility difficult for motorists and pedestrians

With weather conditions once again changing this weekend in Carson City, it becomes important that you drive slower and be more observant for unseen obstacles as well as pedestrians that may be in the roadway. Visibility decreases when rain and snow mix and stopping distances will be increased should you need to stop suddenly.

UPDATE 9:27PM: The Nevada Highway Patrol reports the crash Wednesday night near Highway 50 East at the corner of Fairview Drive and Gordon Street involving a pedestrian was a fatality. Troopers are at the scene and the crash is under investigation.

UPDATE 8:35PM: Highway 50 traffic has been diverted because of the pedestrian crash Wednesday night at Highway 50 East and Fairview, said Carson City Sheriff's Office Sgt. Scott McDaniel. The stretch of roadway has been blocked at Fairview and Highway 50 and Fairview south at Gordon.

Carson City emergency crews called to motorcycle crash on North Carson Street

UPDATE: The driver of the red Dodge minivan who rear-ended a motorcycle rider was taken into custody on suspicion of driving while impaired, said Carson City Sheriff's Office Sgt. Scott McDaniel. The Harley rider was not injured.
As of 4:13 p.m. one lane of traffic was open, with motorists being diverted through the southbound median.

A DUI and motorist compliance checkpoint conducted by the Carson City Sheriff’s Office had at least 1,887 vehicles go through Saturday that resulted in 24 citations and four vehicles that were impounded for driver’s license or vehicle registration violations, a Carson City sheriff’s sergeant said.
