Going into the eve of Halloween, teeth will be chattering as the weather calls for sunny skies but with a chill in the air and daytime temperatures in the upper 40s around the capital city. Events around town Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2019 include a Halloween costume walk at Riverview Park in Carson City, a "trick or trunk" event in Dayton, art showings, storytelling at the Carson City Library and more.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of events around the Carson City region Friday through Sunday to celebrate Nevada Day. Activities include the annual parade down Carson Street, a carnival at Mills Park, the 30th annual Nevada Day Classic, The La Ka Lel Be Pow Wow at the MAC, beard and rock drilling contests, delicious food dishes, pancakes, chili and plenty of beverages to suit kids and adults of all ages.

We're days away from our celebration of statehood and the weather around the capital city couldn't be more, well, Nevada-like with daytime highs near 70 and sunny skies. Carson City area activities ahead for Wednesday, Oct. 23 feature an economic roundup presented by the Northern Nevada Development Authority at Casino Fandango, Carson Tahoe's annual "Spooktacular" family event, Firehouse Subs will host our local Search and Rescue for a dinner fundraiser; Sierra Nevada Journeys and Nature Conservancy will present family STEM night in Genoa, plus art showings and more. Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region to help the next three days breeze by. Events include Harvest Train festivities at the Nevada State Railroad Museum, Thomas the Tank Engine and steam train rides in Virginia City, the first-ever Gandy Dance in Dayton, October Ghost Walk Tours through downtown Carson City and more!

While haze from nearby Sierra fires may linger some, we're looking at another pleasant fall day around the capital city heading into Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2019. Events locally include a ribbon cutting and outdoor moving showing at the new Schulz Ranch Park, workshops, a women's safety meeting, a pumpkin patch for kids at Carson Mall, plus art showings and public talks. After hours it will be toasts, cheers and business networking all around at the Dayton Taphouse. Enjoy the day.

The Carson City Sheriff's Office investigation division is asking for the public's assistance in identifying the suspect in a robbery that happened Sunday night at a south Carson Street fast food restaurant.

CHS has many opportunities for students to become a part of something bigger than just themselves, not that making a name for oneself is a bad idea or anything, but it is up to the student to step on up, come on in, and check them out. There are so many clubs on campus; there are Interact Club meetings at lunch in CHS teacher Erin Been’s room every Thursday, and Been also advises the Represent Club.

Saturday, October 12

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days. Events include the final V&T Railway train rides of the 2019 season, the 27th annual Carson City Pumpkin Patch at Seeliger Elementary School, fundraisers around town, coin press demonstrations at the Nevada State Museum, comedy at the Carson Nugget and more!

Breezy and cool conditions are on the way as we look ahead to Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2019. Events lined around the capital city area include art workshops and showings, a "scary makeup" class in time for Halloween at the Carson Nugget, a luncheon with Congressman Mark Amodei hosted by the Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce, family story time at the Carson City Library, a women's safety meeting, Salsa dancing and more. Enjoy the day.

Going into the second week of October, there's plenty of events around the capital city for this Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2019 including a morning walk, evening hike and a bike ride with Muscle Powered. There's also art showings, the grand opening of Carson City's Postal Annex, family movie night at the Carson City Library featuring "Muppets from Space," as well as Big Band jazz music with a fall theme at Living the Good Life and more. With the closing of Cafe at Adele’s, Carson City and its community will witness the end of an era.

This decision by owners Chef Charlie and Karen Abowd, comes in the wake of a fire that occurred March 28, and the subsequent inability to negotiate a settlement with the insurance company that would cover reconstruction costs.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days. Events include the 30th annual Outhouse Races in Virginia City, American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life event in Carson City, Fright Night at the Douglas County Fairgrounds, Oktoberfest at the Casino Fandango, the 26th annual 'Making a Difference' Golf Tournament and much more!

A suspect was taken into custody Thursday after allegedly stealing a purse and vehicle keys and then stealing an SUV near the Carson City Aquatic Facility.

Heading into Wednesday, Oct. 2 events lined up include Coffee with a Cop at Comma Coffee, Walk and Bike to School Day, a public meeting to discuss stormwater rates, art workshops and showings, a Bee City USA meeting at Greenhouse Garden Center, the first gathering of Women Seeking Safety classes at the Salvation Army, family story time at the library, presidential candidate Elizabeth Warren at the Carson City MAC, Salsa dancing and more.

The Carson City IHOP on South Carson Street has officially shut its doors and the building is set to be demolished. At this time, IHOP corporate said they have no plans to reopen another IHOP chain in Carson City, but they do have three locations in Reno and one in South Lake Tahoe.

Join Carson City Ward 2 Supervisor Brad Bonkowski for “Breakfast with Brad” on Friday, Oct. 4, from 7 to 8 a.m. at the Cracker Box restaurant. All Carson City residents are invited to attend.

For most of its 80th session in 2019, the Nevada Legislature proceeded without one of its mainstays: Café at Adele's, the landmark Carson City restaurant frequented by politicos (and regular customers) for more than 40 years.

In late March, seven weeks into the session, Café at Adele's closed after a fire broke out in a back room of the restaurant.

Stop by the east side of Mills Park today, Sunday, September 29th and visit the historic Wungnema House for the Foundation for Carson City Parks and Recreation’s monthly open house, from 2:00pm to 4:00pm. There is no admission fee for the open house, and all are welcome.

Minden, NV - For the sixth consecutive year, several Douglas County businesses were recognized with a Spotlight Award. This year’s awards were given at the Critical Issues Conference held on Thursday, September 26, 2019. The Spotlight Awards recognized businesses in 7 different categories: Business and Professional Service, Entrepreneur, Manufacturing and Production, Restaurant, Retail, Sports and Recreation, and Tourism and Hospitality.

Joe D’Angelo says he has spent the majority his life helping people. After several failed attempts to bring large-scale community projects to different cities in Nevada, he has now set his sights on Carson City to make his “Joshua’s Community” dreams come to life with the purchase of the Ormsby House. 

Heading into the weekend, there’s a mountain of jam-packed activities over the next three days. Events include the 100th annual Candy Dance in Genoa, the Carson City Community Center Garage Sale, free walks at Nevada State Parks, Virginia City’s Street Vibrations Fall Rally, the 31st annual All-Breed Dog Shows, The Beatles Flashback tribute band concert and much more!

Heading into Thursday and the final stretch of the work week, it is shaping up to be eventful around the capital city area featuring a morning hike along Clear Creek hosted by Muscle Powered, activities at the Carson City Library, western square dancing offered through Carson City Parks and Recreation, Food Truck Thursday at Mills Park, Ladies' Night Out at Gather, a volunteer information hour and training hosted by Carson City's CASA, a lecture entitled "100 Years Later: The 1919 Transcontinental Military Motor Convoy" featured at the Nevada State Museum, and more.

Jamming into the midweek, events lined up for Wednesday, Sept. 25 around the capital city include a Carson City Chamber's Soup's On luncheon with a primer on blockchain. The Northern Nevada Development Authority will host its monthly Business Edge meeting at Casino Fandango with a focus on Nevada's energy efficiency and sustainability initiatives. Also happening: Fusion cooking classes at Healthy Communities Coalition’s Dayton headquarters, plus the Veterans Resource Group will make a visit to the Dayton Food Pantry. There's also a Wine and Moondance Chocolate Pairing at Expresso Yourself inside the Brewery Arts Center, plus art workshops and showings, Salsa dancing and more.

On the heels of a much needed town hall on gun safety and legislation in Reno, Clint Koble, Democratic congressional candidate for Northern Nevada’s CD-2, will be holding his second town hall on the topic tonight in Carson City. Koble will engage Northern Nevadans in a much needed discussion about congressional action to strengthen America’s gun laws. The event is 6 p.m. at La Santaneca Restaurant, 316 E Winnie Ln, Carson City.
