Carson City Soroptimist will present the Live Your Dream Award, five scholarships, and recognize four Girls of the Month during its January program meeting. The meeting is open to the public, with prior reservations required. It will be Wednesday, Jan. 22, noon to 1 p.m., at Glen Eagles Restaurant.

Jack in the Box on South Carson Street to close

After 30 years in Carson City, the Jack in the Box restaurant at 3665 South Carson Street will close its doors Jan. 15, 2020, its franchise owner announced Wednesday.

Carson City's Bleu Cafe reopens restaurant, bar for lunch following public outcry

Carson City's Bleu Cafe closed their restaurant doors in November to focus on catering and parties, but after months of public outcry from Bleu Cafe enthusiasts, Chef Roberta Davies has opened the restaurant and bar for lunch, Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The restaurant is popular for their menu that touts cooking "the old fashioned way," with every item made from scratch using real ingredients. When it closed, the public let Davies know just how upset they were.

Carson City Historical Society spearheads campaign to save Adele's building

The Carson City Historical Society Board held an emergency meeting on Dec. 21 to discuss the eminent demolition of Adele’s, and strategized on how this historic building could be preserved.

The board voted to pursue a fund raising campaign to work with the community to preserve the 155 year-old Adele’s building at 1112 North Carson Street, Carson City, Nev.

Original owners of 'The Basil' are back at the renowned Carson City restaurant after funding school in Thailand

Carson City's The Basil momentarily changed hands while undergoing a corporation change, but now, original owners Bob and Nan Watanar, who also serves as head chef, are back in the kitchen of the beloved Thai restaurant.

After spending thirty years creating delicious traditional Thai food on Carson Street, Bob and Nan wanted to pay forward their hard work and good fortune to those in need.

Bob and Nan set off for Bangkok, where they funded a school for abused children who were being looked after by Nuns. They helped create a commercial kitchen at the school, where the children are now learning how to run their own restaurants.
