United States Marine Corps Captain (retired), Robert Paul Pier (Bob) left this life for eternity on Jan. 8, 2020 to be reunited with his Creator and his waiting wife, Ruth Jane Pier. Bob was born on August 10, 1931 in South Bend, Indiana as the youngest of nine children, Bob was 88 years old.

The Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space Department will host January's Full Moon Hike on the Wild Horse Trail this Friday, Jan. 10. Not only will the hike feature some wild horses and the "Wolf Moon" it will also be a celebration of Carson City's first Winter Trails Day.

RENO — January is National Radon Action Month, and University of Nevada, Reno Extension’s Radon Education Program is offering free short-term radon test kits to Nevadans from Jan. 1 through Feb. 29. Today, the Mortimer & Mimi Levitt Foundation named Carson City, Nevada as one of 20 small to mid-sized towns and cities across America to win a Levitt AMP Grant Award of $25K in matching funds to present a free concert series at The Change Companies Stage. The Brewery Arts Center submitted Carson City’s Levitt AMP proposal.

The proposed Andersen Ranch Estates neighborhood project was the hot topic during the Carson City Planning Commission meeting Tuesday night, with the commission recommending approval of the project map with a 4-2 vote with 1 vote absent.

The USDA Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit is pleased to announce the arrival of our new Forest Fire Management Officer, Carrie Thaler. The Bridgeport Winter Recreation Area on the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, Bridgeport Ranger District will open for snowmobiling starting at midnight on Monday, Dec 16.

Carson Ridge Disc Golf Complex, Carson City Parks and Recreation newest park, and Carson City's first disc golf courses will be open for play today, Saturday December 14th at 9am.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days. Events include the KTVN Share Your Christmas Food Drive at the Governor's Mansion in Carson City and at Minden's Carson Valley Inn, Homestead Holidays at the Silver Saddle Ranch and more. The Polar Express Train Rides are sold out for the rest of the year, but Santa Train express rides are steaming up at the Nevada State Railroad Museum over the weekend. Read on for details.

This Friday through Sunday, Dec. 13-15, the first Homestead Holidays at Silver Saddle Ranch, hosted by the Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space Department, will be bringing a free family event to the community with some good old-fashioned Christmas charm.

The Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space Department will host an open house for the Carson River Trails Phase II Project.

The project is funded by a grant from the Southern Nevada Public Lands Management Act (SNPLMA), which will construct a non-motorized multi-use pathway on the east side of Prison Hill, through Silver Saddle Ranch, and along the Carson River through Buzzy’s Ranch connecting to Riverview Park.

The Carson City National Night Out event held in August has been awarded third in the nation among communities with a population of 50,000 to 100,000. Significantly, Carson City was the only Nevada jurisdiction to receive an award this year.

Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space invites the community to the inaugural Homestead Holidays event at Silver Saddle Ranch, Dec. 13-15, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. each night. Homestead Holidays is intended to be an old-fashioned holiday celebration with handcrafted decorations, holiday lights ornamenting historic ranch buildings, and family activities for all ages.

Carson Now has partnered with Carson City's Parks, Recreation and Open Space's first annual "Homestead Holidays" to offer a Letters to Santa writing campaign.

CARSON CITY — The Nevada Department of Conservation and Natural Resources is excited to announce that Zachary Ormsby has been hired as the new Program Manager for the Nevada Conservation Districts Program.
