Tricks, treats, and fun for all ages is what Halloween is about. You’ll find numerous reasons to don a costume in this year’s list of everything Halloween. Parties for the adult crowd, haunted houses, and trick or treating are just the tip of the broomstick. Everything is listed chronologically by start time. If it is located outside of Carson City, I’ve put the name of the town in bold face.

Nevada Day Parade seeks volunteers

Nevada Day officials are seeking additional volunteers to serve as parade marshals for the 78th annual Nevada Day Parade on Oct. 28.

Under the direction of Richard Doede, the Capital City Community Band will open its fortieth concert season with a Free “Tribute to the American Red Cross”, Saturday, October 28th following the parade from 2:00-3:00pm at the Amphitheater in the Legislative Mall, Carson City, Nevada for Nevada Day.

It’s easy to get excited about Halloween as it approaches. October is filled with pumpkin stuff, haunted houses, and plenty of parties. But here in the capital city, we have Nevada Day to anticipate, as well: a day filled with hot air balloons, parade floats, music, competitions, and plenty of Battle Born fun. While you’re waiting for the three-day weekend, go enjoy Monday. Football, swing dancing, and karaoke are all on the menu.

It’s time for the Nevada Day Weekend celebration! On Saturday, Oct. 28, watch the famous Nevada Day Parade, then head over to “Brewfest 2017!” where you’ll be able to try a variety of different beers from around the world.

Pat Travers will also be performing live at the Carson Nugget for two shows at 7PM and 9PM.

The Arlington Event Center will also host a Craft & Vendor Fair from Oct. 27-29.

Join the party across from the Carson Nugget Casino in Carson City for an action-packed weekend!

Nevada Day program cover released

Artists from across the state, representing an array of mediums, are featured on the cover of this year’s Nevada Day program.
“The cover is a shared authorship of several artists, which plays into the ideals of the Nevada Day parade and its theme,” said Mark Salinas, Carson City’s director of arts and culture.

Sunday, Oct. 8: Things to do around Carson City and beyond

It might be a blustery Sunday, but the snow isn’t falling yet so enjoy what’s left of our Indian Summer. Whatever you couldn’t cram into Saturday is probably still around: the Aviation Round-up, Italian Festival, and the Outhouse races are still going strong. The Carson City BMX season is coming to an end soon, go check out their races at Livermore Sports Complex. Life of Julia Bulette featured at Leisure Hour Club dinner meeting

Members of the Carson City Leisure Hour Club will learn of the loves and losses of Julia Bulette, renowned resident of Virginia City, at their dinner meeting on Wednesday, October 18.

Bulette’s murder began a manhunt that last over a year and resulted in the arrest, trial, and the April 24, 1869 execution of John Millian.

In what was the largest gathering of people in Nevada up to that time, 3,000 to 4,000 people were present at the hanging.

Statewide art show to celebrate Nevada Day theme

A tribute to Nevada’s arts and entertainment will kick off this year’s Nevada Day festivities celebrating the same theme. Capital Collage 2017, featuring a variety of arts and artists from across the state, will be 7-11 p.m. Oct. 27 at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada, 1870 Russell Way.

Virginia City is in for a crappy weekend, but they asked for it. The annual Outhouse Races begin with a parade down C Street at noon both days. Learn more about our local Sherriff’s Department today during ‘Coffee with a Cop’ at Dunkin Donuts. Join the Carson Library this evening for their family movie and craft.

Senator Square: Action packed homecoming week experienced at Carson High School

Unforgettable and exciting, this is how the Carson High School Homecoming celebration week began. Students enjoyed all the fun and festivities that began at 1 p.m. last Friday as every student in the school hustled to the big gym to prepare for and celebrate everything from the freshman, sophomore, junior, and senior classes to the upcoming crowning of the 2017 Homecoming Queen and King.

Why the bells stopped ringing in downtown Carson City

The joyful sounds of bells chiming from atop the Paul Laxalt building in downtown Carson City came to an abrupt halt over the summer because of equipment power failure, said Public Information Officer Mary Woods of the Nevada Department of Administration.

Sundays can be a lazy day if you prefer, but there’s plenty to do if you’d rather seize the day. There's a Health Energy Fair today from 11 to 4 in Carson City. The pet parade at Dayton Valley Days is free for all participants, so dress up Fido in his best costume and strut your stuff. Head over to the Shoe Tree Brewing Company for an afternoon of good feels. A fundraiser to benefit the family of Iliana Avila, a local girl with an inoperable brain tumor, features great beer, a silent auction, live music, and more. Labor Day commemorates the men and women whose sweat made this such a great country and has been a national holiday since 1894. Join Muscle Powered at Silver Saddle Ranch by the Carson River for a bike or hike this morning. Bring water and a camera, you never know what wildlife will make an appearance.

A sunny summer weekend has arrived and it brings numerous fun ways to seize the day. You can always head out hiking or spend the day at the pool, but the Carson City Fair is just here until Sunday. Farm animals, great exhibits, live entertainment, a carnival, and a bull-riding rodeo can be found at Fuji Park. Park your car at the Super Walmart on Topsy and you’ll be treated to a free shuttle. Go a little bit country at the Brewery Arts Center tonight; they are bringing back the Southern Drawl Band to the Minnesota Street Stage for this week’s free concert.
