Although Veterans Day was observed yesterday, there are several things today that honor our former members of the military. Battle Born Harley Davidson is throwing an appreciation party complete with food trucks. Virginia City’s annual Veterans Day Parade begins at 11 a.m. and the City of Reno will commence their parade after a short ceremony beginning at 11:11 a.m. You’ll find an abundance of craft fairs in Carson City, Carson Valley, and Dayton. We’ve got a wine walk weekend coming our way, come rain, snow, or shine. This one could get a little blustery; there’s a storm moving in. I’m just grateful that Mother Nature waited until after the parade and trick-or-treat night to send us some winter.

Everywhere you look, we are ready for Halloween: skeletons and cobwebs, pumpkins and monsters, witches and headstones. Tonight is the real deal. There have been several Halloween celebrations already, but nothing beats trick-or-treat night. Get started at the Carson Mall, then head over to the Nevada Humane Society for even more candy. The Downtown Business Association welcomes the costumed kids to their Candy Crawl. But there’s nothing quite like the historic west side when it comes to Halloween.

After a week of unseasonably warm temperatures and picture-perfect conditions for Saturday's Nevada Day parade, next weekend may look entirely different with the arrival of the first moderate Atmospheric River-type system that may bring snow to the Sierra and foothills and rain to the valleys, according to the National Weather Service.

Nevada's 153rd birthday and 79th Nevada Day Parade teemed with excitement. From floats to marching bands, beards to single-jack drills, pancakes to chili, there was something for everyone to see and do in downtown Carson City along the parade route.

The man who once threatened to disrupt the Nevada Day Parade and led anti-Carson City, South Lake Tahoe Police, El Dorado County Sheriff's Office, district attorney and judge campaigns will be spending the next seven years in prison after he was given the maximum sentence Friday in Sacramento Superior Court.

The 79th Nevada Day Parade is now under way in downtown Carson City with thousands of people lining North Carson Street between William and Stewart streets, cheering on the more than 200 entries celebrating this year's "Arts and Entertainment" theme.

Ten divisions of entries, including floats, marching bands, public service contingents, and horse groups, are now making their way past the Nevada State Capitol.

Nevada Day officially began Saturday morning with the annual Nevada Day Classic 8K and two-mile run/walk in downtown Carson City, followed by pancake breakfasts hosted by the Builders Association of Western Nevada and Carson Lodge No. 1, and then annual sunrise hot air balloon launch organized by Relax.

It’s Nevada Day weekend, and that means the annual parade and festivities will bombard downtown Carson City with thousands of revelers. I made the decision to put all of the parade related events into a separate list for a few reasons: one, this list would be way too long otherwise; two, Halloween fun is plentiful all weekend long; and three, I want my list to be as easy to read as possible. The Nevada Day parade, with all of its corresponding events, is my favorite thing that Carson City has to offer. Normally, I would just have the complete listing of everything Saturday has to offer in my weekend event summary, but Parade Day offers a few challenges. Namely, there is just so much going on in downtown Carson City that creating a separate listing seems easiest for all of my readers. Whether it’s the bloody marys, the beard contest, or running into long-lost friends that gets you there, it's going to be a beautiful, sunny day.

As the capital city prepares for Saturday's 79th annual Nevada Day Parade, the thousands who line Carson Street for the celebration will no doubt generate paper, plastic, food and beverage waste.

Carson City crews spent Friday putting out barrels along the parade route as an all-out effort to minimize what others leave behind. Following the parade, Carson City Public Works is there to sweep the street clean of debris.

Finally, Nevada Day weekend is here. State offices are closed, the kids are off school, and Carson City is hoppin’. Join the Downtown Business Association for the ‘Passport to Downtown’ with live music, a raffle, craft and vendor show, and a family fun center, complete with petting zoo. Stick around for the annual fall Blinky Man Costumed Nighttime Bike Ride Pub Crawl with Lights. Halloween festivities, a carnival in Mills Park, and opening night of the La Ka Lel Be Pow Wow are on today’s list, as well.

CARSON CITY, Nev. - The Nevada Builders Alliance Women’s Council will hold its 18th Annual Pancake Breakfast at Red’s Old 395 Grill in Carson City on Saturday, Oct. 28, from 6 to 9:30 a.m.

Note, there was a last-minute change in streets where the entries are supposed to line up that is different than the printed program. The change was made to accommodate some larger floats. Heading into Nevada Day weekend, the forecast for Carson City calls for mostly sunny skies through Sunday with daytime highs in the mid 70s, according to the National Weather Service.

It’s that time again. The Battle Born state celebrates its admission to the United States on the last Friday of October, with the annual Nevada Day parade on Saturday. New this year is a ‘Passport to Downtown’ event on Friday. CARSON CITY — The Reno Corvette Club answered the call to fill a pickup with pet food at Michael Hohl Motor Company for the national nonprofit Pets of the Homeless.

As a highlight for the upcoming statewide art show, Capital Collage, Mark Salinas commissioned Las Vegas papier mache artist Justin Favela to create three, alien-themed piñatas. However, the piñatas won’t just be on display, they will be broken in traditional custom during the art show.

The Nevada Department of Veterans Services is pleased to announce Director Kat Miller has been selected to serve as Grand Marshal in the 2017 City of Reno Veterans Day Parade. Brigadier General Zachary Doser has been chosen to serve as Deputy Grand Marshal in the November 11th event honoring veterans and those currently serving in the U.S. Armed Forces.
