Each October, Nevadans turn their attention to the state capitol, Carson City, home of the “official” Nevada Day Parade. Since 1938, the Nevada Day Parade in Carson City has been an annual coming together to celebrate Nevada’s heritage and the founding of this great state on October 31, 1864.

Five Carson City residents vying for Ward 3 seat on Board of Supervisors, appointment on Nov. 4

While the seat for Ward 2 will be filled following the election on Nov. 4, another seat is open and will be filled by appointment.

The seat for Ward 3 is currently held by Supervisor Lori Bagwell, who will be vacating now that she has been elected Carson City’s mayor.

Carson City’s Historic Bank Saloon, formerly Jack’s Bar, opens after reconstruction

After the Nevada Builder’s Association began work on the former Jack’s Bar site in May of 2017, construction workers and carpenters overcame many obstacles including asbestos, 300 residing pigeons, and historic Carson City preservation guidelines.

The Carson City Host Lions Club is sponsoring a fun Chalk Art Contest as part of the Nevada Day festivities on October 31st.

The contest is open to all Carson City residents, households, and businesses. Contestants will create chalk art masterpieces on their own driveways or sidewalks based on the Nevada Day theme of “My Favorite Moment in Nevada.”

Children’s Museum, Carson City Chamber plan Halloween-themed golf tournament

Once on a downward spiral, golf has become the sport du jour for those seeking to be outdoors in a safe environment where friends can meet and socially distance while getting needed exercise. Realizing the renewed interest in golf, the Carson City Chamber is taking the golf tournament to the next level.

Before COVID-19 hit the capital city, Trick or Treating had been changed to Friday, Oct. 30 since the Nevada Day Parade was falling on Oct. 31 this year.

Despite the parade being cancelled, Trick or Treating is still going to be held Oct. 30 at this time, unless otherwise directed by Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak.

Golf Tournament to return to Nevada Day Celebrations for first time in over a decade

The Nevada Day Golf Tournament is returning to Carson City this Nevada Day after a long absence from the capital city.

According to Ken Hamilton, Executive Director of Nevada Day, the Golf Tournament is making a comeback this year for the first time in over a decade.

Fifteen Carson City non-profits were awarded nearly $800,000 in COVID-19 relief funding via the CARES act during the Board of Supervisor's meeting held Thursday.

The State of Nevada through the CARES Act has allocated over $10 million in Coronavirus Relief Funds “CRF” to Carson City. Carson City’s Preliminary Plan of Expenditure allocated $1 million to be awarded to non-profit organizations located in Carson City.
