The Carson City Symphony, directed by David Bugli, will present the first of four “LatinXpressions” concerts on Sunday, Feb. 23, at 4 p.m., at the Carson City Community Center's Bob Boldrick Theater, 851 E. William Street in Carson City. The concert highlights music and dance of Latin America as well as classical compositions.

greenUP!, a nonprofit organization that provides environmental education to businesses, announced it has received a $12,898 grant from the Nevada Division of Environmental Protection Bureau of Sustainable Materials Management 2020 Recycling Grant Program.

We celebrate our community for its many, many charitable functions and its generosity in the spirit of Christmas and giving. Heading into Christmas Eve, activities around the capital city are winding down, but the last minute shopping will continue, so prepare for that rush on the roadways and at local stores. It is the last day of the Holiday Craft Show at Carson Mall, so stop on by. There are no planned Muscle Powered fitness events scheduled. Christmas Eve church services are at First Presbyterian Church in Carson City and other places of worship around town. Here's what's ahead Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2019.

The spirit of Christmas is in the air as we head into the final stretch of the work week. Thursday events around the capital city feature an afternoon hike hosted by Muscle Powered, a Carson City tradition with the return of Joyful Noise Holiday Community Show at the Brewery Arts Center and more.

Clouds will roll into the capital city region Tuesday keeping temperatures quite chilly. Happenings around town include organized morning and evening fitness walks, a "Stuff the Bus Toy Drive" at Capital Ford, a Planning Commission meeting on the proposed Andersen Ranch development and a Posada event at Mark Twain Elementary. September 11, 1937 – December 3, 2019

Jean Hamilton passed away peacefully surrounded by family, Tuesday Dec. 3rd.
Jean married Bud Hamilton on December 22, 1956 in Lindsey, California. They moved to Carson City, Nevada in 1972. Jean always wanted to be a nurse and went to nursing school as soon as all her kids were in school. She enjoyed a 37 year career as a Registered Nurse, with the majority of it spent at Carson Tahoe Hospital. Everyone who worked with her, or were under her care, said she was truly the best nurse.

CARSON CITY — Western Nevada College, part of the Nevada System of Higher Education, announced that it has hired Erica Gallegos to manage the GreenBizTracker database and to supervise WNC interns who will be hired for the Nevada Green Business Program.

Even though valley rain and Sierra snow happen this time of year, we're in for a brief change after going weeks without any precipitation. Enjoy the changeup. CARSON CITY — The Nevada Builders Alliance and its philanthropic arm the Nevada Builders Foundation, in partnership with Battle Born Beer and Red’s Old 395 Grill, raised a total of $3,870 at the Nevada Day parade, setting its yearly total at nearly $9,500.

Those who made Nevada Day 2019 possible — the volunteers who put in hundreds of hours of organizing and preparing — were celebrated Thursday evening at a Carson City dinner held at Casino Fandango.

Heading into the middle of the month, we're all deserving of a high five. You can give an entire family a big cheer Thursday by donating a turkey at the annual Carson City High Five Turkey Drive hosted by FISH at Carson City Nissan. Stop by, bring a turkey and give a local family in need a happy Thanksgiving. One of the many challenges the Nevada Day Committee faces is judging the parade entries, as far as who is the best in which group or category, along with Overall, President, Parade Director, and People’s Choice Awards.

The reason for the difficulty is simple: every parade entry brings their own unique style of artistic expression when it comes to portraying whatever they are truly passionate about, and therefore how do you judge one over the other?

While much of the nation is stuck in an arctic freeze, we're stranded with abundant sunshine in Nevada's capital city area with temperatures well above normal for this time of year.
