We honor those who have served our country today on this Veterans Day, Monday, Nov. 12, 2018. Take a moment to thank those who have given in service and sacrifice to our great country, and remember those veterans who are no longer with us. Around Carson City and throughout Northern Nevada, federal, state and local government offices are closed.

The Nevada Day Show art exhibit is open at the Nevada Artists Association's gallery located at the Brewery Arts Center in Carson City. Meanwhile, students are invited to participate in the upcoming Holiday Art Show, which will open Dec. 1.

Today is Armistice Day, Nov. 11, precursor to the modern Veterans Day holiday, which is observed on Monday.

On this date 100 years ago, armistice was signed ending World War I in Europe.

Good day Carson City, it is Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2018. It is also Election Day. Polls in Nevada open at 7 a.m. and close at 7 p.m. Meanwhile, enjoy another day of sunny skies with a hike, brisk walk or bike ride around town. There's both a morning and evening hike offered through Muscle Powered or you can simply walk through downtown Carson City and alongside the capitol building. Also featured today are activities that promote diabetes awareness through Carson Tahoe Health, numerous art showings, local political party election night events and a classic film being shown at the Brewery Arts Center.

Hello Carson City and welcome to Monday, Nov. 5, 2018. The beginning of the work week promises sunny skies and seasonable temperatures, with highs in the mid to upper 60s. With the time change now in full swing and the sun rising earlier, it's always good practice to keep your windshield clean and clear and to be mindful of those intersections, streets, crosswalks and sidewalks where the rising sun shines especially bright.

How about a high temperature of 74 degrees in the Nevada state capital on the first Sunday of November? That's according to the National Weather Service in Reno, and it ought to be motivation enough to get outside, soak up the warm weather and enjoy all that the Carson City area has to offer.

As for today, there's a number of activities around town including a blood drive, networking opportunities, El Dia De Los Muertos celebration at WNC, an afternoon hike, a movie showing at the Jack C. Davis Observatory, art displays and more.

Activities today feature trick or treating at the Carson Mall, the Downtown Candy Crawl, a haunted house at Western Nevada College and a harvest festival in the Carson Valley. Good morning Carson City, it is Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2018, which means we are one day away from the annual nationwide trick or treating Halloween ritual but ahead of those festivities is the second annual Boo-Nanza celebration today at the Carson City Community Center that you won't want to miss. Also on tap for today are morning walks and afternoon hikes, a film festival showing at the Brewery Arts Center and more.

Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space hosted its first Post Nevada Day Trash Mob on Sunday, Oct. 28. Twenty-five volunteers of all ages gathered at the Farmer’s Market parking lot at 8 a.m. Together, the group gathered more than 1,000 pounds of trash.

UPDATE: The Nevada Department of Transportation has wrapped up the first in a series of overnight full road closures on State Route 28 ahead of schedule. Both directions of SR 28 were closed between Lakeshore Boulevard in southern Incline Village near Tunnel Creek Café and Sand Harbor State Park from 8 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. Oct. 29 for installation of bridges on the State Route 28 shared used path. Originally scheduled to also take place Oct.

The Carson Victory Rollers, Carson City's hometown roller derby team, opened the annual "Battle For Nevada" roller derby tournament with a win over Battle Born Derby Demons Saturday afternoon.

The win positioned CVR to play a second bout at 5 p.m. Saturday. Roller derby continues Sunday as the "Battle For Nevada" wraps up by crowning a champion.

Carson City once again was named the most bearded community in Nevada Saturday afternoon at the conclusion of the annual beard contest immediately following the Nevada Day Parade.

Perennial champion Tom Donovan of Reno claimed his second consecutive title Saturday at the single-jack rock drilling world championship held at the Max Casino parking lot during the Nevada Day Parade in Carson City.

The Nevada Day Parade is wrapping up its 80th annual celebration on Carson Street. But the festivities continue on Bob McFadden Plaza with the popular annual beard contest as well as the Battle For Nevada roller derby competition featuring Carson City's own Carson Victory Rollers at the Carson City Community Center gymnasium.

For eight decades now, the Nevada Day Parade has been a Silver State tradition celebrating statehood.

On Saturday morning, the 80th Nevada Day Parade began on Carson Street crowded with spectators on either side.
