The 12th Annual Oodles of Noodles Festival will be held this Saturday and Sunday in Dayton. Hosted by the Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce, Oodles of Noodles is a two-day event in Old Town Dayton that combines great food provided by our contestants and food vendors, amazing entertainment, local talent, and tons of vendor and business booths.

The Oodles of Noodles Cook-off will be SATURDAY ONLY from 10am-2pm. Tasting Tickets are $5 for Adults and $3 for Children.

Greater Nevada Mortgage (GNM) has brought on Tracy McLeod to serve as a Mortgage Consultant in Douglas County. Her diverse background encompasses more than 20 years of experience in mortgage servicing, including title, escrow and loan origination.

McLeod is an active member of the Council of Residential Specialists, the Women’s Council of Realtors and the Sierra Nevada Association of Realtors. UPDATE: Carson City Fire Department and sheriff's patrol officers were called Wednesday afternoon to an accident involving two vehicles at Carson and Colorado streets. Two were sent by CareFlight to the hospital for non life-threatening injuries.

May is Bike Month in Carson City, and that means more bike riders out and about, commuting, or riding for fun. In honor of National Bike Month, Muscle-Powered, Citizens for a Walkable and Bikeable Carson City has developed a full schedule of events for 2013, including the Tour de Carson May 5- a 30-mile bike ride for more advanced riders, along with two Family Cruise rides, one on May 15 at 6 p.m. starting at Telegraph Square, and a second Ride with a Vet on May 18 in conjunction with Chapter 388 of the Vietnam Veterans of America.

Bike Carson-Tahoe will be doing a clinic at the shop on Wednesday night, May 1st, at 6:30 PM. Owner Chris Huber will cover flat repair, a lesson on gearing (numerical explanation, gear overlap, what gear to use, etc.), and also touch on group riding etiquette.

Lisa Schuette and Bob Truesdale danced an East Coast swing medley to garner first place in the "Local Celebrities Who Think They Can Dance" contest April 27 at High Sierra Swing Dance Club's sixth-annual Spring Ball at the Carson Nugget.

Six local Carson City celebrities are competing in a "Dancing With the Stars"- type contest at the High Sierra Swing Dance Club’s sixth anniversary dinner-dance on April 27 at the Carson Nugget.

The "Local Celebrities Who Think They Can Dance" contestants have been paired with local dance instructors for a variety of dances, including swing, country, Latin, and hip hop. The instructors are Jo Ann Grace, Rainer Herm, Emily Thicke, Armando Nevarez, Earl Case and Bob Truesdale.

Considering how many years I spent building and managing the websites of the Nevada Appeal and its sister publications, I was interested to see them roll out a completely new web platform and design last week.

The look is very clean, though almost in a retro-1999 way, and they do work better on mobile devices. But they removed so much navigation that it makes it hard to find what you are looking for, and the keyword search is deathly slow, when it works at all.

High Sierra Swing Dance Club invites the public to its sixth-annual anniversary Spring Ball dinner-dance on April 27 at the Carson Nugget, 507 N. Carson St., Carson City.

Having fed and provided shelter for the poor and indigent for more than 30 years, the Carson City nonprofit agency FISH is asking Carson City residents, public officials and private citizens to a special dinner on Thursday, March 14.

Members of the Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 388 are ringing in the New Year by knocking on doors throughout Carson City. They are making personal visits to those who helped bring the Traveling Wall Memorial to Mills Park for “Battle Born Days” and the Nevada Day celebrations.

Nevada Fire Safe Council filed a voluntary Chapter 7 petition this week, seeking to liquidate debt and essentially end operations. Documents list liabilities of up to $10 million and assets of anywhere from zero to $50,000.
The council established in 1999 shut down last spring after a federal audit released in February revealed irregularities in how it handled grants, the Nevada Appeal reports.

All cultures celebrate the dead as well as mourn them. And the first of November usually marks the Day of the Dead, also known as Dia de los Muertos. In Carson City there will be a multicultural celebration Saturday, November 10, to honor loved ones who have passed away with stories, crafts, songs and exhibits, colorful folklore dancers. The Day of the Dead, Dia de los Muertos event runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Nevada State Museum.

CARSON CITY – A dispute has emerged between Gov. Brian Sandoval and the Legislature over what information in the initial state agency request budget should be made available to legislative staff and the public.

At a meeting of the Legislature’s Interim Finance Committee today, state Budget Director Jeff Mohlenkamp was asked about what is considered by legislative staff to be a departure from past practice regarding the budget information provided to legislative fiscal staff and the public.

A former Carson High School teacher faces charges of having sexual conduct with a student and the Carson City District Attorney's Office has issued a warrant for her arrest.
Jennifer Dalton, 35, quit the school district in November 2011 for personal reasons and has been on administrative pay since Sept. 1, 2011, Carson City School District Superintendent Richard Stokes told the Nevada Appeal.

CARSON CITY – Scores of people waited in line at the county courthouse here this morning to become some of the first of more than 1.2 million registered voters statewide to cast ballots in the Nov. 6 general election.

It was with great sadness that I read the Nevada Appeal report (Oct.6,) “Political Speech Leads to Pushing at Forum”. For many months I’ve tolerated mean, thoughtless tirades by a handful of people opposed to positive change in our capital city community. Everyone is entitled to his opinion, however negative and uninformed it might be.

We've been getting many calls and emails asking about what happened to Nevada Appeal Editor Dennis Noone, whose name has been stripped from the newspaper's masthead.

Two sources inside the newspaper report that Noone, who was hired a little more than a year ago, was let go on or about Aug. 10. As for why this happened, we don't know, as personnel matters like this are private, and the Appeal has not released any information about it.

What Huber knows is the world of cycling.
Huber is a former professional cyclist who had several top-10 finishes in the World Cycling Championships and held the speed record for a self-powered vehicle in 1993.

The Carson City Democratic Women's Club monthly meeting will be held Saturday July 14, at Grandma Hatties. At noon, the featured speaker is Dennis Noone, Editor of the Nevada Appeal. There will also be a brief presentation from the Organization of America's Nevada Rural Coordinator concerning the start up of the Obama campaign. “SMART PHONES, SMART PHOTOS”

CARSON CITY, NEVADA-Carson City Library will host Barry Smith, Executive Director of the Nevada Press Association, on Monday, July 23rd at 6:00 PM. Smith will present “Smart Phones, Smart Photos”, an informational program that will provide basic tips for taking photos with a smart phone. This program is geared toward novice users and will offer information about apps for editing photos, as well as storing and saving photos.

CARSON CITY – Local elected officials representing the Northern Nevada workforce development agency have endorsed a plan to restructure the delivery of job training funds to Nevadans, including eliminating the two local boards now involved in the process.

The Carson City Chamber of Commerce has two events going today. First, you can hear from the publisher and editor of the Nevada Appeal at the Gold Dust West at 11:30 a.m., part of the Chamber's Soup's On luncheon series.

Last week it was revealed that the Carson City Board of Supervisors would be considering putting a question on the ballot to approve a quarter-cent sales tax to fund a downsized $28 million City Center Project, aka Nugget Project.

It started off with a grand $90 million vision. Then it shrank to $50 million. Now, the Carson City Center Project, aka Nugget Project, looks like it got downsized again, this time to $28 million.

According to the agenda for the May 17 Board of Supervisors meeting, the board will consider directing City Manager Larry Werner to draft a ballot question asking voters to approve a quarter cent sales tax increase to finance the $28 million project.

What got cut? Mainly the parking garage.

A combination of great weather and growing enthusiasm for cycling in Carson City is getting getting people out there on their bikes, and the ride with Carson City’s Leaders on May 7th was no exception.
