For those who keep tabs on Nevada's wildlife, a frequently asked question during periods of heavy snowfall is – should we feed wildlife when winter limits their food availability?

Game wardens noted an alarming increase in illegally, sometimes mistakenly, killed waterfowl at the end of the waterfowl hunting season that closed on Jan. 29 at the Key Pittman and the Overton Wildlife Management Areas in Southern Nevada.

Ginger, a dog adopted from the shelter in Carson City, went to the Barn Hunt National and won big. She now can add the 2016 Grand National Championship, Versatility Championship, and Games Silver Medalist to last year's Games Championship. The heart-tugging defeat might go down as the most memorable game Western Nevada College ever played on the baseball diamond; this for a program that won three Western District tournament titles and participated in three National Junior College Athletic Association World Series.

Heavy rain and lightning suspended the Western Nevada College-College of Southern Nevada baseball series on Thursday afternoon at John L. Harvey Field in Carson City.

The teams will pick up action at 10 a.m. Friday, with the Wildcats batting in the bottom of the fifth inning and the score tied at 2. Weather allowing, the teams will try to play two additional games following the completion of the suspended game.

Congratulations to Scott Vickrey, the 2016 CHS Teacher of the Year, and Tami Burgoon, the CHS Classified Employee of the Year for 2016. Becoming Teacher of the Year is no easy task at Carson High School. With 104 teachers, not including other staff members, the CHS Teacher of the Year Award is an accomplishment most teachers will never receive, so winning an award like this required a great many people to say a great thing or two about Scott Vickrey.

Try describing the Silver State Tag without sounding like an infomercial. It simply cannot be done. With all the extra gear and services a person can win you are constantly saying the phrase, “but wait, there’s more!”

The Silver State Tag already allows hunters the opportunity to hunt one of four big game species (mule deer, Rocky Mountain elk, Nelson (desert) bighorn sheep and pronghorn antelope) anywhere in the state, but the winner also walks away with thousands of dollars’ worth of hunting gear and services.

Gilbert Alan Wetenkamp pleaded no contest on March 11, 2016 to the misdemeanor charge of unlawfully taking of a bear.

A Carson City family chartered a private helicopter Wednesday to search for two shaggy white dogs missing since Friday night. The owners of the Spinoni Italiano dogs are Stacey and Lorne Belt. The dogs, Mara and Adele, escaped while the couple were walking.

The annual Eagles and Agriculture event kicks off this week in the Carson Valley, a wildlife viewing exhibition that attracts hundreds of visitors to the area to see birds of prey feeding and nesting below the eastern slopes of the Carson Range.

Hello fellow anglers, Christmas is right around the corner soon followed by New Year's Day. Time seems to get away from us throughout the year, but when Christmas comes we all start to think about family and friends we have had over the years.

Minnesota wildlife artist Mark A. Thone has done well in the previous art contests he has entered, but after getting close several times and never winning, he was starting to wonder if it was ever going to happen. Well, he can stop wondering because Thone’s entry has been selected as the winner of this year’s Nevada Duck Stamp Art Contest.

“My first reaction to your announcement of my selection as Nevada Duck Stamp winner was an ear to ear grin,” said Thone. “Then I played my poker face told my wife the news…As her face lit up, I admit to doing a little touchdown dance.”

Nevada game wardens are seeking information about a bull elk that was poached and left to rot near the Pearson Ranch late August in Lincoln County. Operation Game Thief is offering a $2,000 reward to help catch the shooter.
