SATURDAY:

Carson City Fire Department, Sheriff's Office and Parks, Recreation and Open Space officials appear in a video produced Friday that explains a shooting ban on city, state and federal land due to extreme fire danger.

The Bureau of Land Management, the U.S. Forest Service, and the Nevada Division of Forestry have announced the implementation of shooting restrictions for all state and federally owned lands. In addition, the Carson City Fire Department has now implemented shooting restrictions on city and privately owned lands including “open space lands” within Carson City.

Due to the risk of wildfires, the Carson Ranger District will be instituting a temporary shooting restriction. This restriction will go into effect on Friday, June 30, and remain in effect until Saturday, Sept. 30 or until conditions change, the U.S. Forest Service announced Thursday.

Don’t look now, but there are only seven days left to purchase your tickets for the Nevada Dream Tag raffle. Tickets are available now and will be sold until Friday, June 30 for this year’s hunting season. The winners will be announced in early July.

The deadline for the Nevada Department of Wildlife second draw of hunting tags is Monday, June 26, 2017. Final results of the second draw will be provided by Friday, July 21. Any tags remaining after the second draw will be sold on a first come, first served basis.

Seek and you shall find. This week in Carson City, participants in a local scavenger hunt will be searching for four purple-painted parking meters placed indoors at public venues throughout the Nevada state capital.

The Nevada Department of Wildlife is sponsoring a three hour intro to bow fishing clinic on Wednesday, June 14, 2017. This is an introductory class and all materials will be supplied. The clinic is designed for individuals 18 years and older who are interested in the basics of bow fishing in Nevada.

If you did not draw a big game tag in the recently completed main draw, don’t give up just yet. There are still tags available for the upcoming second draw.

A video public service announcement commissioned by the Nevada Department of Wildlife and produced by local marketing firm, the NEON Agency, took top awards from the Reno chapter of the American Advertising Federation at the 2017 “ADDY” Awards, March 10, at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center. Game wardens have closed the case of two Utah residents, sentenced for the illegal killing and possession of elk in both Nevada and Utah. The case spanned several years, three states, and a multitude of charges and poached animals.

The Nevada Department of Wildlife wants to remind sportsmen who have not yet applied for this year’s big game draw that the deadline is fast approaching. All applications must be received by Monday, April 17 (11 p.m. for online applications and 5 p.m. for paper applications).

A wolf from the Shasta Pack in Northern California was spotted near Fox Mountain in northwestern Nevada in early November, 2016. Nevada Department of Wildlife personnel investigated the sighting after being alerted to a video recording of the apparent wolf.

Some people might not realize that elk and mule deer shed their antlers in the winter months, and many members of the sporting and non-sporting public alike, head out to the winter ranges where animals concentrate to collect shed antlers for a wide variety of uses.
