Updates and changes to school zones have arrived in the Carson City area.

School zones for Bordewich Bray, Carson Middle, Carson High, Eagle Valley, Empire, Fremont, Fritsch, Mark Twain, Pioneer High and Seeliger have been extended from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. The installation of new signs and updated times is expected to be completed by the second week of October, 2020.

Halloween isn't over just because Carson City will celebrate Halloween on Friday October 30. Nope.....We Thin Veilers are hosting a Drive By Trick Or Treating event on Saturday October 31, for a Community Safe Halloween for Children and Adults.

With October now here, retailers statewide are stocking up on the essentials for the most frightening time of the year. This year, Nevada consumers are projected to spend $128.7 million on scary decorations, elaborate costumes and sugary sweets to celebrate Halloween, according to estimates by the Retail Association of Nevada.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) is hosting their fourth annual “Fright at the Fairgrounds” every Friday and Saturday night through the month of October starting Friday October 2nd.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities over the next three days. The Carson City Wine Walk returns Saturday with COVID-19 restrictions. Virginia City will be filled with spooky events over the month of October with its signature Hauntober event. The Ghost Train is returning to Carson City from the dead. The Carson City Railroad Association, in partnership with Wild Horse Productions, will be reviving the yearly Halloween tradition of the Ghost Train at Mills Park in Carson City.

Once on a downward spiral, golf has become the sport du jour for those seeking to be outdoors in a safe environment where friends can meet and socially distance while getting needed exercise. Realizing the renewed interest in golf, the Carson City Chamber is taking the golf tournament to the next level.

Conventions, sporting events with live audiences and large church gatherings will be allowed to resume once again after Gov. Steve Sisolak announced that he is raising the limit on public gatherings from 50 to 250 people — and even higher for some of the state’s largest venues.

Before COVID-19 hit the capital city, Trick or Treating had been changed to Friday, Oct. 30 since the Nevada Day Parade was falling on Oct. 31 this year.

Despite the parade being cancelled, Trick or Treating is still going to be held Oct. 30 at this time, unless otherwise directed by Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak.

The historic mining town of Virginia City is regarded as one of America’s most haunted cities. This October 31 and throughout the month, uncover spooky tales and festive family adventures for all ages – all aligned to accommodate current restrictions and guidelines – during “Hauntober.”

Wild Horse Productions is excited to revive the yearly tradition of the Halloween "Ghost Train" at Mills Park in partnership with the Carson City Railroad Association.

Following the successful launch of V&T Railway's Carson City’s Carson Canyon Railbikes, the organization has announced a lineup of special event railbike tours for the remaining 2020 season. In addition to the standard Carson River Canyon tour, riders can expect extended hours, themed décor and added entertainment attractions.

For more than 15 years, Lisa Davis served as the DARE officer for Carson City. Her last day is Thursday as she and her husband Bob will be relocating to Oregon. She leaves Carson City with many accomplishments in providing children guidance and away from falling into the trap of alcohol and drugs.

Heading into the first Thursday in March and we're looking at continued sunshine with a high near 70. Happenings lined up include a Carson City Board of Supervisors meeting, auditions for the Carson City Follies show in July, trivia night at Bella Vita Bistro, a wood design workshop at Rustically Divine, an artist reception for Galen Brown and Emily Kray at Western Nevada College and a Muscle Powered afternoon hike. The next meeting of the Carson City Board of Supervisors will take place on Thursday, March 5, beginning at 8:30 a.m. in the Sierra Room of the Community Center located at 851 East William Street.

Items on the docket for the meeting include an increase in water rates, proposed marijuana dispensary changes in allowed operating hours, trick-or-treating a day before Halloween, and more.

Late last month, Pioneer High School literally sailed student learning outside of the classroom into the Carson City Community Center pool at their first all-school Challenge Day event with Reno-based Project Discovery.

In an effort to promote public safety by preventing contact between children and supervised sex offenders, officers from the Department of Public Safety, Division of Parole and Probation conducted the 15th annual operation Scarecrow on Oct. 31, 2019.

A 34-year-old Carson City man was arrested in the 3000 block of Thurman Circle early Thursday morning on nine counts including felony possession of stolen property, ex-felon in possession of a firearm, and six counts of possession of drug paraphernalia. In addition, two other people were arrested in connection with this incident for obstruction after allegedly telling deputies the man wasn’t at home.

Tonight is trick-or-treat night. We ask all to take superhero actions to promote a safe and fun Halloween.

They say the veil is thinnest between the spirit world and ours on Halloween. But today, I’d like to challenge you to examine another veil, the veil between what your mask communicates and who you are. Yes, today we are talking about authenticity. And for many leaders, this can be a scary topic (boo). But as the leader of yourself, or of a company, you owe it to yourself to ask this question. In an effort to provide enhanced safety for children and to give the public a greater sense of security during Halloween evening, officers from the Nevada Department of Public Safety, Division of Parole and Probation, will conduct Operation Scarecrow on Oct. 31, 2019, in Carson City and the Reno, Sparks areas of Washoe County.

Carson Catalina Apartments in Carson City announced Tuesday that its 5th Annual Haunted House will be free and open to the public this year. The Haunted House has become a complex event that incorporates animatronics, live actors, mazes, and much more. The staff begin building the haunted house about 2 months before opening day, Halloween.

The ghosts and zombies and costume super heroes will be out and about now through Thursday, either at organized events or Halloween night trick or treating around the Carson City area, including the Carson Mall, throughout downtown and at the Governor's Mansion.

CARSON CITY — The Nevada Department of Transportation and Nevada Department of Public Safety, Highway Patrol are reminding drivers and pedestrians to be safe on the road this Halloween and every day.

Come join the Carson City Parks, Rec and Open Space department at Riverview Park this Wednesday, Oct. 30 at 6 p.m. for the second annual Costume Hike. This year, we will be walking along the Carson River at Riverview Park learning about the history of Halloween. It will be a fun-filled adventure with opportunities for prizes, learning, and great photo opportunities.

Bring water, excellent costumes, flashlights, and your excitement! Riverview Park is located at 600 Marsh Rd, Carson City.
