Oh, wow, I just got a glance at the date. With the gorgeous weather planned for today, it’s hard to believe that Christmas is two months away. Let’s celebrate the holidays right in front of us first. The kids aren’t going to want to miss out on the Carson City Boo-nanza: trick or treating at the Community Center, crafts and activities at the Library, and Hotel Transylvania on the screen at the Aquatic Center. DJ Trivia is looking to expand their team of Trivia-masters: head to Red’s Old 395 tonight if you’d like to audition, or just play.

I hope you’ve got your Halloween costume ready. A week of various Halloween activities, trick-or-treats, and festivities for the kids begins tomorrow with the first ever Boo-nanza: a family-friendly collaboration between the Community Center, Carson City Library, and Aquatic Center. Tonight, the over 21 crowd gets to enjoy a costume contest at Alatte inside the Carson Nugget, with many more parties on the way.

Tricks, treats, and fun for all ages is what Halloween is about. You’ll find numerous reasons to don a costume in this year’s list of everything Halloween. Parties for the adult crowd, haunted houses, and trick or treating are just the tip of the broomstick. Everything is listed chronologically by start time. If it is located outside of Carson City, I’ve put the name of the town in bold face.

Sunday, Oct. 22: Things to do around Carson City and Beyond

Nevada Day is just around the corner, but don’t jump the gun. This weekend offers fun for the young and young-at-heart. If you’ve got more apples than you know what to do with, the Greenhouse Garden Center has a cider press available today. Play BINGO for a good cause at the Carson City Senior Center, and don’t forget your costume. Carson City Symphony Association begins their 34th Season today with a concert at the Bob Boldrick Theater; as always, those under 18 get free admission.

The Halloween festivities for the over 21 crowd get started tonight with parties at Living the Good Life, Ed's Doghouse, and Jimmy G's Cigar Bar. If your costume isn't ready yet, you'll still have plenty of opportunities between now and Oct. 31. A hypnotic fundraiser for Mark Lindquist takes place at Silver Oak Golf Course this evening.

It’s easy to get excited about Halloween as it approaches. October is filled with pumpkin stuff, haunted houses, and plenty of parties. But here in the capital city, we have Nevada Day to anticipate, as well: a day filled with hot air balloons, parade floats, music, competitions, and plenty of Battle Born fun. While you’re waiting for the three-day weekend, go enjoy Monday. Football, swing dancing, and karaoke are all on the menu.

Leaves turning, wind blowing, and all things pumpkin sprouting up everywhere. It is absolutely autumn in Northern Nevada. Get ready for Halloween with your choice of pumpkin patches. Seeliger Elementary School is hosting theirs for the twenty-fifth year in a row. Take a trip on the V and T Steam Train at the Nevada Railroad Museum, actually take several trips. The annual Harvest Train event offers an all-day wristband that allows for as many rides as you’d like, in addition to museum admission. So many more fun activities are available to you, you’ll have to read on to see them all.

The Carson Comedy Club Presents Comedian Oscar Ovies

Raised in Northern Nevada, Oscar Ovies exploded onto the comedy scene with his national TV debut in 2010 on Showtime's The Green Collar Comedy Show. This lifetime funnyman brings a sarcastic and admittedly nerdy view of the world both onstage and as the co-host of the late night comedy show The Half Hour Happy Hour.

From Halloween to Taco Bell, racism to relationships, no matter what the subject, once you've seen things through the eyes of Oscar Ovies you're not likely to see it the same way again.

Virginia City is in for a crappy weekend, but they asked for it. The annual Outhouse Races begin with a parade down C Street at noon both days. Learn more about our local Sherriff’s Department today during ‘Coffee with a Cop’ at Dunkin Donuts. Join the Carson Library this evening for their family movie and craft.

I’m heartsick over what transpired Sunday night, but equally comforted by the outpouring of support this community has shown. Nevada Day is just weeks away, and I am truly grateful to be Battle Born. Carson City Sheriff: Stalking reports raise safety concerns, heighten sensitivity

A recent string of reported stalking incidents around Reno and Sparks over the past few weeks has led to increased vigilance locally, Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong said, raising concerns over personal safety.

The Classic Cinema Club presents Edmond O'Brien and Pamela Britton in ‘D.O.A.’ Get there at 6:30 p.m. for discussion and film trivia. For the true trivia junkies, the Fox Brewpub hosts DJ Trivia tonight – all ages are welcome and there are prizes at stake. Halloween lovers of all ages will want to participate in the upcoming production of ‘Nightmare before Christmas’ at Piper’s Opera House.

BOO-NANAZA 2017

Carson City Library, Carson City Parks and Recreation Department, and Southwest Gas are teaming up to host a BOO-NANZA with trick or treating, STEAM activities, a costume contest, spooky decorations, and a movie!

This event will be held on Wednesday, October 25 from 4-6 PM at the Community Center, Library, and Aquatic Facility. BOO-NANZA is a free, safe, and spooky environment for children to participate in Halloween fun. The first 100 participants will receive a bag to use for trick or treating.

Stakeholders sought for new community Halloween event in Carson City

The Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space Department is seeking support from businesses, organizations and individuals in the community to bring an all-new community Halloween celebration this year to the Nevada state capital, Recreation Superintendent Dan Earp said.

A suspect who allegedly robbed Keva Juice on south Carson Street at gunpoint late Saturday afternoon was captured within minutes of the robbery.

Carson City sheriff's deputies have two detained after receiving a call at 4:35 p.m. saying the business in the 2300 block of South Carson Street had been robbed at gunpoint, said Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong.

The popcorn is always free at the monthly Carson City Classic Cinema Club’s movie viewing.
