Events include the South Carson Complete Streets Project groundbreaking ceremony, the International Film Festival held Friday and Saturday at the Carson City Community Center and Girl Scouts of the Sierra Nevada celebrate National Girl Scout Cookie weekend with door-to-door cookie sales. Performers of all ages sought for Carson City Follies production ‘Comedy thru the Ages’

Auditions will be held Thursday, March 5, and Tuesday, March 10, from 6-8 p.m. at the Senior Center, 911 Beverly Drive in Carson City.

Events include a Real ID town hall meeting at the Carson City DMV, the economic impact of pro soccer in Northern Nevada will be featured at NNDA's Business Edge at Casino Fandango, Carson City Schools offers the first of three pre-kindergarten programs for parents and will also host a separate strategic plan meeting. Meanwhile, Carson Tahoe Health and Wellness hosts a yoga class, plus Salsa dancing at Yaple's Ballroom, country and pop dancing at Carson Lanes, a safety workshop for women and more.

The Brewery Arts Center hosts a female version of "The Odd Couple." Carson City's Greenhouse Project is hosting a lunch and dinner fundraiser toward a healthier State Capitol. Dale Poune will perform at Bella Vita Bistro, plus comedy at the Carson Nugget, the Nevada Caucus on Saturday, an open house at the historic Foreman-Roberts House, a Latin-themed concert at the community center and more. From 5 to 9 p.m., Firehouse Subs will be donating a portion of their proceeds to the American Cancer Society Relay for Life. FireHouse Subs is located at 3120 US-50, Carson City.

Carson City, Douglas County firefighters face off in friendly competition to raise money for stair climb

Instead, the delays are being caused by local residents slowing to give what they can to the firefighters raising money for “Climbing for a Cure,” a rigorous nation-wide stair climb in Seattle, which raises money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

Dozens of sweets are in store for Saturday. The American Association of University Women holds its 20th annual Feast of Chocolate at the Carson Plaza and Event Center. Artsy Fartsy Gallery hosts its 9th annual Jewelry and Chocolate Show with several new decorative pieces. To cap-off Saturday, the legendary Cab Calloway Orchestra makes its way to the capital city.

Other activities include a morning and evening walk hosted by Muscle Powered, a dinner fundraiser for the Roman family at Pizza Factory, a community dinner and meeting invite to the Order of Eastern Star, a showing at the BAC of the 1941 film classic "The Lady Eve" and a concert featuring the Tahoe Symphony Orchestra and Chorus with violin soloist Elizabeth Pitcairn at Shepherd-Sierra Lutheran Church. Carson-Douglas Rodeo fundraiser a big success

This dinner event, spearheaded by Jim Masterson, was held on Jan. 17 at the Lodge in Carson City. Many Elks volunteered for this sucessful event. $4,200 was raised to help the club youths with their travel expenses and equipment.
Senator Square: Carson High School's NJROTC Orienteers compete; music, art students thrive

The CHS, NJROTC Orienteers competed in a weekend long orienteering festival in Anza Borrego State Park, Calif., Jan. 17-18. During the festival, team members competed in three different races over the two days.
Carson City’s Junior Victory Rollers Roller Derby Team raising funds to Head to LA

The Carson Junior Victory Rollers are headed to the Shamblock Shake tournament hosted by Los Anarchists roller derby team to compete on behalf of our great city. It was an honor for us to be invited and we hope we can make you all proud and come back with a win.
Go Fund Me page established for family of Dayton man killed in Highway 50 pedestrian crash

Carson City Pizza Factory to host fundraiser for Roman family
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Tue, 01/28/2020 - 11:50amJake Sullivan Roman, 20, of Carson City, Nev., died tragically on Jan. 18, 2020 as a result of injuries sustained in a snowmobiling accident. He was born on Jan. 20, 1999 in South Lake Tahoe, Calif., the son of Blair and Susan Roman. He was a 2017 graduate of Carson High School and was currently a junior at the University of Nevada, Reno.
Pizza Factory on Highway 50 in Carson City will hold a Feb. 4 fundraiser from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. with 20 percent of sales being donated to the Roman family to help with finances during this extreme loss.
Elks Lodge celebrates Carson City Search and Rescue with $2,500 grant
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Sat, 01/25/2020 - 9:10pmOn Friday night, the local Elks Lodge chapter hosted a sold-out dinner and fundraiser event in support of the Carson City Search and Rescue volunteers.
The program included a a live auction, raffle drawing, and presentation of the Elks National Foundation grant of $2,500. These Gratitude Grants are used to support local, charitable activities such as hosting a community clean-up day, purchasing supplies for a homeless shelter, or organizing a school literacy fair.
The Elks Lodge is celebrating 150 years of service.

Carson City, East Fork Firefighters to participate in 'Stairclimb' fundraiser for Leukemia and Lymphoma
Submitted by Kelsey Penrose on Wed, 01/08/2020 - 4:50pmThe Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Firefighter Stairclimb is the world's largest on-air stair climb competition and annual fundraiser held at the tallest building in town, the Columbia Center in Seattle, Washington.
Firefighters from both East Fork Fire District in Douglas County and Carson City are participating in the fundraiser, and will be raising money for the fundraiser until the Stairclimb in March.
Gabe Torres fundraiser set for Jan. 21 at Pizza Factory

Gabe has recently fallen ill with fungal pneumonia. His transplant medications make it difficult for him to fight everyday viruses let alone a relentless fungal infection. This is a fight they can win but it will be a long battle.
Carson City community donates 159 winter coats for kids as part of Carson Nugget fundraiser
