Here is the Carson City area road report for the week of March 6-12, 2017: Road closures expected at the following locations due to utility work. Please follow detours:

Brief overnight road and lane closures will take place on South Carson Street and U.S. 50 near Spooner junction March 7-9 for freeway signage installation as part of the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) Carson City freeway project.

Meet in the Multi-Purpose Athletic Center's parking lot at 1860 Russell Way. Closed-toed shoes and water required.

Muscle Powered Evening Conditioning Hikes Program:
Evening hikes of 4-6 miles in length with an elevation gain, sometimes over 500 feet and usually on single track trail. The evening hike will usually be 1 ½ hour duration or more.

It’s going to be a great Tuesday, Carson City. Parks and Recreation sponsors their weekly ‘Easy Walk’ along Kings Canyon Trail. Although, if the rain continues to fall, the walk will take place at our new Multi-Purpose Athletic Center. Capital City Art Initiative celebrates the artists of Western Nevada College this evening, and then welcomes Phyllis Shafer for an illustrated discussion of her work. The Carson City Classic Cinema Club shows off a young Elizabeth Taylor tonight in the 1954 romantic drama ‘The Last Time I Saw Paris.’

A series of street projects are being proposed by the Carson City Public Works Department for the next fiscal year, Carson City Transportation Manager Patrick Pittenger said.

Following his re-election for a third and final term, Carson City Mayor Robert Crowell is optimistic about what's ahead for the Nevada state capital in 2017.

He delivered his State of the City speech Monday night to dozens inside the Bob Boldrick Theater at the Carson City Community Center, reviewing the city's successes and challenges from 2016 while also reassuring residents about the future.

UPDATE 6:08AM TUESDAY: Highway 395 through the Carson Valley remains closed southbound, but open northbound, according to the Nevada Department of Transportation, NDOT. Southbound detour at Jacks Valley Valley Road to Foothill.

UPDATE 5:15PM: Traffic continues to crawl along Jacks Valley Road and Foothill due to the Highway 395 closure.
One lane of Highway 395 northbound has reopened at Stephanie. Southbound is still closed.

UPDATE 2:45PM: Both the northbound and southbound lanes on Highway 395 are closed due to flooding along the Cradlebaugh Bridge in Carson Valley, said Carson City Undersheriff Steve Albertsen. Southbound Highway 395 motorists are advised to take Jacks Valley Road and connect to Foothill Road. The Nevada Highway Patrol is turning people around at the RV park, he said.

Cradlebaugh Bridge near Stephanie Way in Carson Valley is beginning to flood into the southbound lanes of Highway 395. Traffic controls on Highway 395 are in effect and a portion of the road is now closed.

From the Ask Joe file, Kevin Smith wrote in asking about the new I-580 Carson City freeway connector. He wants to know why NDOT is not building an overpass where the new freeway will cross U.S. 395.

A new traffic signal about to open Wednesday at the intersection of East College Parkway and Research Way in Carson City will help address a significant safety concern related to that area, said Carson City Transportation Manager Patrick Pittenger.

The Nevada Department of Transportation recently installed their first Butts Only Box receptacles to collect cigarette waste at four rest areas on the I-80 freeway. Cigarettes are the number one littered item in the world, installing these receptacles will help protect the historical waters of the Truckee River for generations to come.

A 66-year-old Dayton man, who had been arrested over the weekend for suspicion of a third DUI, was arrested again Monday for felony suspicion of a fourth DUI after a traffic stop, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

A long line of shoppers waited outside the new FoodMaxx grocery store at 3325 Highway 50 East in Carson City Wednesday morning, hoping to qualify for one of 200 free bags filled with groceries to kick off the grand opening celebration of the supermarket chain's 54th store.

A music festival and memorial event to honor fallen Carson City Sheriff’s Deputy Carl Howell has been set for Aug. 19, 2017 at Battle Born Harley-Davidson in Carson City, according to organizers.

A 33-year-old Reno man faces 11 charges including possession of a stolen vehicle, eluding an officer and trafficking a controlled substance after an early Friday morning pursuit that began on the freeway, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

The extension of the freeway from Fairview Drive to U.S. Highway 50 and South Carson Street could open June 1.

The popcorn is always free at the monthly Carson City Classic Cinema Club’s movie viewing.
