UPDATE MONDAY 5:40AM: A late spring storm blasted the Sierra with snow this morning, forcing chain or snow tire requirements over Highway 50 Spooner, State Route 207 over Kingsbury Grade, State Route 431 over Mt. Rose Highway and I-80 over Donner Pass. Go here for an update on area road conditions related to the storm. The National Weather Service forecast calls for the skies to be clearing by tonight with a gradual warming trend this week.

A 59-year-old Carson City man was arrested Thursday in the area of Russell and Long streets for felony suspicion of two counts assault with a deadly weapon, parole and probation violation and misdemeanor obstructing, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Carson City emergency crews were called Wednesday morning to the area of I-580 near the College Parkway exit for a single vehicle rollover accident.

A 22-year-old man was arrested Friday in the area of Mills Park for felony suspicion of robbery after allegedly threatening juveniles and stealing their speaker box, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

The public is invited to attend two Memorial Day events at the Northern Nevada Veterans Cemetery located in Fernley, Nev.

The first is on Saturday, May 27, 2017 with a "Flag-In" event. Volunteers are asked to arrive no later than 8:30 AM to assist in placing an American flag on each gravesite. Participants will receive a free commemorative WW1 pin to show appreciation in preparing the cemetery for the main Memorial Day ceremony.

Saturday, April 22 is Earth Day, an event that was first observed in 1970 and now encompasses over 190 countries around the globe. Muscle Powered will be doing its part to help make Carson City, and in turn the world, a better place by holding a Trash Mob on Earth Day.

Carson City’s annual main flushing program is continuing this week, and is expected be completed next week. Flushing operations will take place Tuesday through Thursday of this week in the Stanton Park area north of Butti Way, south of Highway 50, east of the freeway and west of Fairview Drive.

Here is the Carson City area road report for the week of April 10-16, 2017: Sonoma Street will be closed weekdays from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. east of Saliman Road to Halleck Drive, including the intersection of Halleck Drive and Sonoma Street beginning Monday, April 10. The Nevada Department of Transportation is advising drivers of lane reductions and shifts over the coming months to make way for the final leg of the Carson City Freeway. The road will extend I-580 in Carson by about five miles connecting it from Fairview Drive to Westbound US-50.

The Nevada Department of Veterans Services, in partnership with the Nevada Veterans Coalition, will host a "Remembrance Ceremony" at the Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Fernley, Nevada on Saturday, April 8 at 11 a.m.

UPDATE THURSDAY: Lane shifts will take place on U.S. 50 near Spooner junction in south Carson City beginning the evening of Sunday, April 2 as the Nevada Department of Transportation reconstructs the intersection to connect to the future Carson City Freeway.

A musical lineup headlined by national award-winning musicians is expected to draw a crowd of thousands to the inaugural Carl Howell Memorial Music Festival Aug. 19 in Carson City.
