UPDATE MONDAY 5:40AM: A late spring storm blasted the Sierra with snow this morning, forcing chain or snow tire requirements over Highway 50 Spooner, State Route 207 over Kingsbury Grade, State Route 431 over Mt. Rose Highway and I-80 over Donner Pass. Go here for an update on area road conditions related to the storm. The National Weather Service forecast calls for the skies to be clearing by tonight with a gradual warming trend this week.

A 59-year-old Carson City man was arrested Thursday in the area of Russell and Long streets for felony suspicion of two counts assault with a deadly weapon, parole and probation violation and misdemeanor obstructing, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Memorial Day events at the Northern Nevada Veterans Cemetery in Fernley

The public is invited to attend two Memorial Day events at the Northern Nevada Veterans Cemetery located in Fernley, Nev.

The first is on Saturday, May 27, 2017 with a "Flag-In" event. Volunteers are asked to arrive no later than 8:30 AM to assist in placing an American flag on each gravesite. Participants will receive a free commemorative WW1 pin to show appreciation in preparing the cemetery for the main Memorial Day ceremony.

Carson City Parks and Receation Easy Walk to Ross Gold Park

Meet at 280 Appion Way. We'll check to see how much water is in the pond, talk about the improvement plans for the park and then walk over to check on the progress for the new freeway.

Water and closed-toed shoes required. Hats and sunscreen recommended.

Easy Walk Program: Walks of 1 to 2 miles in length with none or negligible elevation gain, and frequently paved or smooth paths. The walks will usually be of approximately one hour in duration. If it rains or snows, meet at the Multi-Purpose Athletic Center (MAC) at 1860 Russell Way.

South Carson City Freeway 75 percent finished

The Nevada Department of Transportation is advising drivers of lane reductions and shifts over the coming months to make way for the final leg of the Carson City Freeway. The road will extend I-580 in Carson by about five miles connecting it from Fairview Drive to Westbound US-50.
