Noah Elsfelder has joined Greater Nevada Credit Union as Business Services Specialist. He brings more than 12 years of banking experience to Greater Nevada and the businesses it serves.

In his new role, Elsfelder will help establish and maintain Greater Nevada Credit Union’s business banking relationships. Greater Nevada offers a full range of business banking products and services such as checking accounts, merchant services, cash management, as well as business loans, including construction, SBA and agriculture.

Senator Square: Car wash and rummage sale fundraisers this week plus senior in the spotlight

This Saturday, Sept. 13, 2014 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., the Carson High School Health Occupations Students of America members will host car wash and rummage sale in the U at the front of the school. Pre-sale car wash tickets are $3 and can be purchased from any HOSA student. The cost will go up to $5 the day of the car wash. All proceeds go to help send HOSA students to State and National conferences to compete and represent Carson City.

Marching band debuts one of largest ensembles at Saturday’s Wolf Pack football game

From 120 members in 2012 to 180 in 2014, the University of Nevada, Reno has seen its marching band, the “Pride of the Sierra,” grow in numbers, support and pride.

Kicking off during Saturday’s Wolf Pack football game against Southern Utah, Greater Nevada Credit Union continues its fundraising campaign, “It’s Time to Support the Band.”

Michelle Hale has been named Greater Nevada Credit Union’s new Member Outreach Supervisor. She will oversee both community relations and member outreach.

Her community relations responsibilities will entail acting as liaison between Greater Nevada and the organizations it supports, including the University of Nevada Marching Band and Wolf Pack Athletics, Special Olympics Nevada, and the Truckee Meadows Habitat for Humanity. She will also coordinate Greater Nevada’s financial literacy efforts through local schools and other groups.

Carson City students win scholarships from Greater Nevada Credit Union

Carson City residents Ryan Doherty, Marcella Rico, and Maddison Saarem are three of 19 students recently awarded a $1,000 scholarship certificate from Greater Nevada Credit Union.

Ninety-three students throughout northern Nevada applied for the scholarship program, which GNCU has offered for the past 15 years. Doherty will be attending University of Redlands in California, Rico will be attending Western Nevada College, and Sareem will be attending University of Nevada, Reno.

GNCU Supports Carson High Safe Grad; more than $1,900 in donations raised

Greater Nevada Credit Union presented Carson High School’s Parent Teacher Student Association with a $1,940 check toward the PTSA’s annual Safe Grad event.

Julie Slocum, PTSA Safe Grad Volunteer Coordinator and GNCU Educational Branch Coordinator, accepted the donation Thursday at the GNCU Educational Branch on the CHS campus.

Man jailed on felony charges after allegedly stealing debit cards from vehicle

A 20-year-old Carson City man was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of felony vehicle burglary after deputies found him in possession of stolen debit and gift cards and a repair kit taken from an SUV.

Ezekial Brenn Okelley is being held on $55,824 bail. According to the arrest report, Carson City sheriff's deputies responded to an apartment complex in the 700 block of Silver Oak Drive after a report of a suspicious person checking car doors. The man was described by witnesses as wearing a gray hoodie, dark pants, beanie-style cap and carrying a backpack.

Greater Nevada Credit Union is accepting applications for its annual academic scholarship program, which has awarded over $180,000 in scholarships since 2000. This year, Greater Nevada will award 15 scholarships for $1,000 each.

Yanuck becomes Carson City Chamber Chair

Gil Yanuck has assumed the role of Carson City Chairman of the Board effective Oct. 8 following the resignation of Chairman Lisa Stirgus who resigned because of a Wells Fargo transfer to Seattle.

Mr. Yanuck represents AARP and has been a member of the board since 2010. He will serve as chair until June 30, 2014. Joyce Whitney-Silva, Chief Financial Officer of Greater Nevada Credit Union has moved up to join the Executive Committee as Secretary/Treasurer.

A booth will be in the lobby of Carson High School. Desiree, a 2011 Carson High School graduate, died Jan. 30, 2013 in a road rage incident.

Car wash Saturday for family of Dayton man who died

There will be a car wash fundraiser Saturday, July 13, for a local Dayton family to raise money to recover the remains of their beloved family member, Steven Larson, who passed away while working out of state.

The car wash begins at 9:30 a.m. at the S & S gas station in Dayton or donations are being taken in an account set up at Greater Nevada Credit Union under Dodey Larson in care of Steve Larson.

Please come out and help this family. The family will also be selling Steve's handmade barnyard woodwork.

Carson City residents receive scholarships from Greater Nevada Credit Union

Carson City residents Ila Bottoms, Arnold Flores, Leana Garcia, Allison Blair, and Janae Johnston-Bucker are five of 14 students recently awarded a $1,000 scholarship certificate from Greater Nevada Credit Union.

Seventy students throughout northern Nevada applied for the scholarship program, which GNCU has offered for the past 14 years. Bottoms and Flores are attending Western Nevada College; Garcia is attending Great Basin College in Elko; Blair and Johnston-Bucker will be attending the University of Nevada, Reno.
