Nevada State Museum to debut replica Carson City Mint half dollar

Coins with the famous “CC” mark of the Carson City Mint are coveted by coin collectors and those minted in 1870 — the first year of operation for the Mint — rank highly among them in terms of historic and monetary value.

On Thursday, the very coin press that minted the original will be recreating replicas of the 1870 Liberty Seated Half Dollar in the same building that produced the originals almost 150 years ago.

It’s been almost 150 years since the first Liberty Seated half dollar was struck on Coin Press No. 1 inside the U.S. Branch Mint in Carson City — coins made of Nevada silver and bearing the signature “CC” mint mark.

The Nevada State Museum in Carson City plans to commemorate that milestone on August 1 – using the same coin press inside the same building where the original coins were struck in 1870 — with an exclusive Half Dollar Release Party.

Man arrested for meth possession, eluding deputies after staring at them from behind a candy display

A 31-year-old Carson City man was arrested Friday evening in the 3900 block Highway 50 E. for suspicion of possessing a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, DUI drug, driving with suspended registration and a suspended license, performing an unsafe lane change, pulling into a private drive to avoid traffic control, and obstructing.

St Peter's to Dedicate Community Labyrinth

St. Peter’s Episcopal Church will be celebrating the dedication of its newly built Community Labyrinth on May 4, 2019 with a service beginning at 12:30 in the afternoon. The members of St. Peter’s parish invite you to join them in walking the labyrinth beginning at 1 in the afternoon as a participant of the World Labyrinth Day- Walk as One at 1 campaign.
