Carson City man faces felony assault charge; allegedly smashes beer glass in friend's face

A Carson City man is being held on a felony charge of battery with a deadly weapon after he allegedly smashed a beer glass over the head of a friend during an argument which reportedly caused serious facial injuries.

Christopher Lash, 27, faces the felony charge after the victim reportedly suffered nerve damage to his face from the assault. He is being held on $30,000 bail.

Victorian Fashion Show at Nevada State Museum

"Oh, My Bonnets and Bustles: A Victorian Fashion Show" will highlight women's fashions from the 1850's through the early 20th century, roughly the same time period that Queen Victoria reigned in Britian hence the "Victorian" era. The show is sponsored by the Carson City Historical Society.
The fashions for the event come from the collection of Tina Davis-Hersey and Carolyn Davis. The collection includes original outfits as well as costumes created by the mother-daughter duo from historic patterns.

State worker launches budget deficit plan, issues challenge to economists

Carl Kuhl, a state Parole and Probation employee of six years, has created a plan that he claims will eliminate Nevada's budget deficit within two years.

In a news release issued on Tuesday, Kuhl said his plan not only will reduce the budget deficit but also help repair Nevada's economy at the same time. It is a pretty big claim, he admits, coming from an Accounting Assistant I, an entry level position.

Carson City men face charges after spraying windows with BBs during shooting spree

Two Carson City men face property destruction charges after allegedly shooting out 13 windows inside a building in the 2800 block of Arrowhead Drive that caused an estimated $5,200 in damage.

Eric Dean Larson, 23, faces a felony property destruction charge as well as being in the possession of a burglary tool, a gross misdemeanor. Garrett Wesley Blackwell, 20, faces a felony property destruction charge, a charge of discharging a firearm into a structure, also a felony, and a misdemeanor charge of discharging a firearm.

Collectors from as far as Florida and New York are in Carson City this weekend to gawk and potentially buy priceless pieces of historic minted coins and printed paper money in what has become a must-attend event for serious numismatists.

The Carson City Mint Coin Show at the Nevada State Museum will be Aug. 27-28 and offers something for everyone. Held both days from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., the show features over 30 dealers, free appraisals and kids activities.

“From fabulous raffles prizes to numismatic education and gold panning, this year’s coin show promises to be fun for the whole family,” said Curator of Education, Deborah Stevenson. “With the price of gold going sky-high, all of us should take up panning for gold.”

History of the Carson City Mint

Get a history of the Carson City Mint from 1870 - 1893 at this 10 a.m. presentation. The Carson City Mint produced close to $50 million in both gold and silver coins, stamped with the famous CC mint mark. Bob Nylen will also discuss the role women workers played at the mint, as well as show images of the unique and rare coins produced right here in our own hometown. Nevada State Museum staff designs grand prize for Carson City Mint Coin Show

WIth the 150th anniversary of the Pony Express this year, the Nevada State Museum staff designed a unique raffle prize to celebrate this year’s Carson City Mint Coin Show.

Raffle tickets are now on sale for the grand prize, a precious 20-ounce silver bar embedded with two one ounce .999 fine 150th Anniversary Pony Express medallions. Fabricated at Northwest Territorial Mint/Medallic Art and sponsored by John Etten of Heritage Collectibles, this unique, one-of-a-kind prize is valued at $1,500. The coin show is Aug. 27-28.

Coin show brings in collectors of all ages

The Downtown Coin Club staged its first coin show over the weekend at the Carson Nugget.

The event drew 675 adults, plus a number of kids who were rewarded with a Wheat cent album, and were allowed to begin filling it by picking through a pile of 5,000 of the coins.

Ron Roberts from the Nevada State Museum gave each kid who picked out Foreign coins a trip around the globe, showing them the country and telling them the denomination.

Cash in on the celebration of coins this Saturday in Carson City

Time to flip a coin and cash in on some Carson City history this week.
Today through Saturday is National Coin Week and the Nevada State Museum and Reno Coin Club will celebrate the occasion with events culminating on Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the museum.

The 87th annual National Coin Week, will celebrate coin and currency collecting with the theme, “Beautiful Places: Landmarks and Mintmarks.” The Nevada State Museum and the Reno Coin Club, both members of the American Numismatic Association, have several events lined up for the day.

1st Annual Downtown Coin Club Coin Show

The Downtown Coin Club will host their first annual coin show at the Carson Nugget on May 15 and 16. The event is sponsored by Downtown Coin, 111 W. Telegraph, (775) 883-4653.
