A new exhibit has hit town. Over the weekend, the Nevada Artists Association welcomed new works for its Imagination show. Take a moment and explore all the downtown area galleries: the Community Building by City Hall, the gallery upstairs of in the Courthouse, the Sierra Room in the Community Center, and the walls of the Visitor Center. Grab your cowboy boots and learn to line dance at Carson Lanes. Sassafras welcomes Judith and Rocky to the stage for a jazz jam as fun and funky as their menu.

Silver Strike CrossFit to Honor Law Enforcement

Silver Strike CrossFit will mark National Police Week, May 15–21, by raising money for a Northern Nevada charity and with a special offer for members of local law enforcement. The Carson City Classic Cinema Club brings ole blue eyes, Frank Sinatra, to the Brewery Arts Center: The Man with the Golden Arm is this month’s movie. Late artist, Craig Shephard, will be honored at the Nevada Arts Council this evening.

Couple finds physical therapy along Carson City mountain trails

Having just finished physical therapy school in 1994, Kevin Bigley and his then-girlfriend Tammie were having trouble finding good-paying jobs in Denver where they lived at the time.

They knew they wanted to live somewhere they could continue rock climbing, mountain biking, hiking, skiing and other outdoor activities. So they checked out the Sierra.

The Clearcreek Bowman have started up their Archery Shoots for the season: free for kids 17 and under, and only $5 for those older. Every Tuesday evening, 5:30 to dusk, the Clear Creek Bowmen host their Tuesday Night Archery Shoots at the Centennial Park Archery Range.
Both traditional and 3D targets are available.
The target range is open shooting for use at no cost. There is a $5.00 fee (kids 17 and under are free) to shoot the 3D animal targets.
We have archery equipment, volunteers and instructors to get you started. Come on out and join us.

Carson City coed league softball fires up Friday night with 32 teams for the spring season

The season’s first adult coed softball league play launched Friday night at Centennial Park in Carson City, with signups up considerably over the past couple of years.

According to Carson City Parks and Recreation Recreation Sports Program Supervisor Scott Chapman, 32 coed teams are on tap to play this year, up from 30 last year and 28 the previous year.

Carson City Fire Chief: Fire has been doused at Centennial Park, mop up and investigation begins

UPDATE: 4:26PM: The brush fire that was sparked Sunday afternoon at Centennial Park in East Carson City has been doused and is under control, with firefighters expected to be on scene for the next two hours for mop-up, said Fire Chief Bob Schreihans. The fire burned around 3 acres and the cause is unknown at this time. Fire investigators are at the scene. No one was injured and at least one structure was damaged, Schreihans said.

Downtown businesses weigh in on Carson Street construction

Construction of the downtown corridor of North Carson Street is now in full swing since the March 7 groundbreaking, and already changes have begun taking shape.

Kiwanis Club of Carson City's 38th Annual Easter Egg Hunt

Kiwanis, Carson City, Reno Aces, Archie, Easter Egg, Egg Hunt

Kiwanis Club of Carson City hosted its 38th Annual Easter Egg Hunt at Centennial Park on Saturday, March 26, 2016. Hundreds of gathers attended this event and took part in the egg hunt. Local country station, KBUL 98.1FM, emceed the event.

Reno Aces mascot, Archie, was on hand for pictures as well as entertainment for the kids. Carson High School's Key Club provided the Easter Bunny for photos. Kiwanis Club of Carson City provided more than twenty volunteers to ensure this event would be successful.

Easter 2016: The Butchery of Carson Street

I should not have done it, but old habits, and common sense, die hard. Carson Street is the main drag through town, always was, always will be, for going between the north and south sides of town. Just look on the map. There are no through-street alternatives that run the length of town, from College Parkway to Clearview Drive; only fragments, most of which are residential.

We walk the gentle uphill trail starting from the parking lot behind the baseball fields. This is a dirt trail, a bit rocky in a few places.This park is off Arrowhead Road, just north of the intersection of Hiway 50 and Arrowhead. As you turn into the John Winters Centennial Park entrance, the trailhead is beyond the Eagle Valley Golf Course club house and around the baseball fields on Heritage Way. Bring a hiking stick if you have one and water if the weather is warm.

A 21-year-old Carson City man was arrested on a felony charge of giving false identification to avoid being arrested following a fight Tuesday night at Centennial Park, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Watch the kittens play at Petsmart: SPCA is hosting a kitten party for adoptable pets. A concert with the Mark Sexton Band at the Dangberg Home Historic Ranch is a great way to end the weekend.

Fire reported behind Centennial Park

Update 7:40 p.m.: Sheriff Kenny Furlong reports that the fire has been extinguished, and was contained to the vehicle. About 20 gallons of fuel was spilled on the ground as a result, and that environmental officials have been contacted. No one was injured.
