Muscle Powered Easy Hike to Centennial Park's Back Door

Meet at the end of Bohr Road. Bring water, a friend and/or friendly dogs. Walking poles recommended.

Muscle Powered Easy Hike program are hikes of between 2 to 4 miles in length, often with some elevation gain (no more than 500') and can be on a paved path, smooth wide trail, or single track. The hikes will usually be of approximately 1 1/2 duration.

Five years ago, our community suffered a great shock when four people, including three National Guardsmen, were the victims of a shooting attack at IHOP. Holy Tuesday, Batman! Today is jam-packed full of options around our valley. A walk with Parks and Rec, a movie viewing with the Classic Cinema Club, and life-sized board games at the Library are all on the docket for today. The big story, of course, is National Night Out with the Carson City Sheriff's Department. Free food, activities, fun, and even an aircraft or two descend on Mills Park for the annual party.

Carson City looks to be at the forefront of state tourism

Three years of change and rebranding efforts by the Carson City Visitors Bureau (CCVB) are turning the Nevada state capital into a tourist destination, said CCVB Executive Director Joel Dunn, and no longer a point on the road map to pass through.

Carson City firefighters respond to brush fire at Centennial and Arrowhead

UPDATE 3PM: Carson City Fire Department crews knocked down a brush fire that started just after 1:30 p.m. near Eagle Valley Golf Course off of Arrowhead. The fire burned between a half to 1 acre, said Carson City Fire Department Chief Bob Schreihans.
A fence caught on fire as well as a number of trees, which put up a large smoke plume. Also responding to the brush fire was a Forest Service crew that was in in the area as well as Central Lyon Fire Protection District. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Today's Easy Walk with the Parks and Recreation Department takes you along the Moffat Open Space on the east side of town. A Mound House woman was arrested early Saturday in the area of Highway 50 and Centennial Park on felony suspicion of possessing a firearm by a prohibited person, possession of a dangerous drug without a prescription, and misdemeanor possession of marijuana.

Focus on Carson photography banner to be installed Wednesday at Curry and Telegraph

The Carson City Arts & Culture Coalition will install its Focus on Carson photography banner on the Hop & Mae Adams Foundation construction site fence at Curry and Telegraph streets this Wednesday, June 22, at 10:30 a.m.

The banner displays 20 photographs taken in Carson City by local artists. The public is invited to attend and help hang the banner.

So today we say a fond farewell to May and the bizarre winter/spring/winter/summer weather that came with it. Early voting for the primary is underway at the Clerk's office in the Courthouse. Get out and explore the history of the west side of town with the Parks and Recreation easy walk. Head out to the archery range and learn to shoot a bow. Softball fever, total madness hit Carson City

It's a mad, mad, mad, mad world this weekend in the Eagle Valley as more than 100 teams from all over the West Coast have converged upon the John D. Winters Centennial Park Complex in northeast Carson City for the 17th Annual All World Sports Midnight Madness slow-pitch softball tournament.
