Julie Buntin’s tome, ‘Marlena: A Novel,’ is the chosen Nevada Reads book, and Nevada Humanities has brought the author here for a discussion and reading. Find Ms. Buntin at the Nevada State Library and Archives at lunchtime or hear her thoughts at the Minden Library this evening. Keep an eye to the skies if you’re interested in today’s Muscle Powered hikes; they will walk on the indoor track at the Multi-purpose Athletic Center if it’s rainy.

You’ll need a helmet and a trail-ready bike if you’d like to join in. A hike up Goni Road with Muscle Powered will be worth the views and a good work-out. Mile High Jazz Band has teamed up with vocalist Jakki Ford for this month’s performance; you’ll find them tonight at Living the Good Life. Muscle Powered’s guided hikes are a great way to explore our town and learn about the many trails hidden in the hills. The Carson City Classic Cinema Club gets an extra-special visitor at tonight’s film viewing; STRAZZ, the Carson City Symphony’s Youth String Orchestra will be performing before ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’ lights up the screen. Sandie LaNae and Arlene La Ferry are the featured authors at Browsers Corner Book Store this evening.

Keep an eye out for Mark Twain, plenty of music, and fun for all. Leis are the preferred accessory for Lei Day at the Nevada State Museum where you’ll be treated to Polynesian surprises and free admission. With three local theater groups performing this weekend, you’re sure to find a performance that’s right up your alley. Read on and be prepared to be bombarded with options.

Auditions for their annual show, Senior Follies, continue this evening and are open to all ages. CCAI’s art exhibit in the Community Development Building on E. Proctor features work from several high school artists. Join them in celebrating this young talent at a reception tonight. The day should be gorgeous; a hike with Muscle Powered is the perfect way to embrace the spring.
The Clear Creek Bowman Cancer Shoot

Thirty-five unmarked yardage 3D targets at the Centennial Park Archery Range.
Proceeds will go to the Carson Tahoe Cancer Resource Center.
Adults: $20.00
Couples: $30.00
Family: $35.00
Young Adult: $10.00
Youth: $5.00
Eleven years old and under shoot for free.
There will be a hamburger lunch ($6.00) and a raffle for some great prizes.

You can join Muscle Powered for one of today’s two walks, but I won’t blame you if you’d prefer an indoor activity. Join the Carson Library for coloring night; they have plenty of pictures to choose from. Bobbie Ann Howell is at the center of today’s Artist Reception at the Nevada Arts Council. You’ll hear her discuss her exhibit ‘Vistas and Viewpoints.’ Head down to Pizza Factory to lend a hand to Mark Twain Elementary School: just make sure to mention you are there for the fundraiser.

It’s National Library Week, and the Carson City Library isn’t shirking its duties with the Lego Club, Story time, and a sewing class in its Makerspace all happening today. They have also brought in renown speaker, author, and innovator Milton Chen to lead a panel discussion on education inside of the Brewery Arts Center’s Performance Hall.

If you’d like to learn more about drones, those little flying robots, then tonight’s installment of the Sierra Nevada Forum is for you. They’ll be covering the versatility of drones, and fully expect you to be surprised. Chili’s Restaurant welcomes Mother-son duos for a night of quality time. Super-hero costumes are encouraged, and bring a camera, Darth Vader will be there for pictures.

Clear Creek Bowman Tuesday Night Archery Shoots

Both traditional and 3D targets are available.
The target range is open shooting for use at no cost. There is a $5.00 fee (kids 17 and under are free) to shoot the 3D animal targets.
We have archery equipment, volunteers and instructors to get you started. Come on out and join us.
It’s a great way to experience the world of archery. Open to all ages.

Nevada Rural Housing study brings Carson City's housing shortage into focus

Meet a the back of Centennial park, across from the baseball fields on Heritage Way. This hike's direction is north/northeast, towards the north end of Carson City. Water and sturdy shoes or athletic shoes are required. Hiking poles, hat and sunscreen recommended. Some trails are dirt and others are paved.

Best I can tell, St. Patrick’s Day parties are not deterred by a little snowfall. There will be no parade in Virginia City, but the Rocky Mountain Oyster Fest is on. Head to downtown Carson for more green beer, Irish music, and corned beef and cabbage than you’ll know what to do with.

The monks of the Gaden Shartse Monastery in South India will be visiting until Sunday and have several workshops and rituals in store. The Roska Collective is kicking up our downtown nightlife up a notch with a Tequila and Techno night at Battle Born Social. Sunni Frost and Cedric Williams are back on the Living the Good Life stage. Their vocals will turn an ordinary evening extraordinary.
I Love Carson City’s Weekend Event Summary: Jan. 5 – 6

The monthly downtown wine walk is a great way to catch up with friends after the bustle of the holiday season. The annual Be Bold, Run in the Cold Winter Trail Series offers the Winter Round-up 5 or 10K. If staying active is a resolution, then a brisk run in our hills fits the bill. For something less strenuous, you can join our Parks and Recreation Department for a Winter Wonderland Walk along the Carson River.

The annual community holiday show at the Brewery Arts Center features John and Cherie Shipley, with the special addition of the Joyful Noise Children’s Chorus. These chilly December evenings are perfect for checking out the lights and decorations around the area. Candy Cane Lane, the drive-thru display at Carson Valley Inn in Minden, runs every night. Nevada Christmas, a private home in the Stephanie Way neighborhood, goes all out with a light show that’s choreographed to music.

Santa Claus is popping up all over, including at Benson Feed for the annual CASI Pet Photos with St. Nick and aboard the train at our Railroad Museum’s Santa Train. The musical ‘Honk, Jr’ for the young ones and Love/Sick for the older crowd are on the stage at the Brewery Arts Center. Spend the day at the Silver Saddle Ranch: their annual Holiday Open House is the perfect time to explore their trails and learn more about the working ranch’s preservation.

Take a ride with him at the Nevada State Railroad Museum, join him on the ‘Elf Crawl’ from the Capitol to the Carson Mall, or tell him your wish list at Debug Computers. Adults have a hard choice to make: the monthly downtown wine walk and the Holiday with a Hero Pub Crawl both take place today, and I’m not sure I’d recommend attempting both.

Clear Creek Bowman Holiday with a Hero 3D Shoot

15 to 25 3D targets will be out. Unmarked yardage, but binoculars and rangefinders are ok.
What is the cost, you ask? A $10.00 donation, that will go to "Holiday with a Hero" through the Carson City Sheriff's Department.
This is a fun shoot for a great cause, so dust off your bow one last time and come on out and have some fun.
The shoot is being held at the Centennial Park Archery Range in Carson City.
Registration starts at 9:30am and the shoot starts a 10:00am.
