I Love Carson City’s Weekend Event Summary: April 29 - 30

Hold on to your hat, the weekend is here. If it’s a cowboy hat, head over to Genoa for their annual Cowboy Festival. Plenty of free things to see, hear, and experience await. The annual Spring Earth Spirit Faire lets you celebrate Mother Earth with workshops, holistic practitioners, great vendors, and a raffle. It benefits the Heart to Heart School and Advocates to End Domestic Violence so it’s always worth checking out. You’ll have to keep reading for all of your choices, the spring thaw brings out the best this valley has to offer.

Muscle Powered Easy Hike to Centennial Park East

Meet at the back of Centennial Park, across from the baseball fields on Heritage Way. We will walk the upper trail. Closed-toed shoes and water are required. Bring a friend and/or friendly dogs. Hats, sunscreen and walking sticks recommended.

Muscle Powered Easy Hike program are hikes of between 2 to 4 miles in length,often with some elevation gain (no more than 500') and can be on a paved path, smooth wide trail, or single track. The hikes will usually be of approximately 1 1/2 duration.

As the week rolls along, it’s easy to get excited about the weekend. Genoa’s Cowboy Festival takes over the tiny town with music, poetry, artisans, food, and fun and the Comstock hills will roar to life with motorbikes during the annual Virginia City Grand Prix. While you’re waiting, enjoy a jaunt with Muscle Powered along the Carson River or take an Easy Walk to the Pioneer Cemetery. Tonight, songstress Canyon White will take the stage at Living the Good Life.

Carson City deputies make drug, DUI and warrant arrests

A 26-year-old Carson City man was booked into jail Wednesday on a felony warrant alleging possession of schedule I, II, III and IV controlled substances, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Clear Creek Bowmen Archery Club Annual Cancer Shoot

Sunday April 30th, is the Clear Creek Bowmen annual Cancer Shoot. The shoot will be 35 3-D targets and unmarked yardage at the Centennial Park Archery Range.

Belt buckles will be awarded to the 1st place shooter in all adult and youth classes. Tee-shirts for 2nd and 3rd.
There will be a raffle with some great prizes.

The Carson Visitor’s Center has put together a great art walk pamphlet that helps you explore our downtown culture. The Legislature is home to a few rotating galleries; you’ll find lots of local art at the Brewery Arts Center; and Capital City Arts Initiative sponsors shows at the Courthouse, Community Center and in the Community Development building by City Hall. Whether you prefer indoors or outdoors activities, today has something to offer.

Spring is what you make of it. It’s not going to be that warm today, but it’ll be dry, so embrace the day. Tuesdays are for hiking and biking in Carson. The morning easy walk will take you from Mills Park to the Capitol and the afternoon conditioning hike will give you well-deserved views from C-Hill. Now that we’ve warmed up some, the Tuesday evening ladies’ ride in Ash Canyon has started up again: don’t forget your helmet. Congratulations to Mile High Jazz Band for 16 years of monthly concerts at Comma Coffee. Enjoy a night of great music, yummy drinks, and a birthday cake to celebrate.

Moose Lodge to Host 39th annual Easter Egg Hunt succeeding Kiwanis of Carson City

Nine years ago, the Kiwanis Club of Carson City, established in 1959, were approached by the Jaycee’s of Carson City. For 30 years they had sponsored and provided the annual Easter Egg Hunt, primarily at Governor’s Field on Easter Sunday.

Clear Creek Bowmen Tuesday Night Archery Shoots

Every Tuesday evening, 5:30 to dusk, the Clear Creek Bowmen host their Tuesday Night Archery Shoots at the Centennial Park Archery Range.
Both traditional and 3D targets are available.
The target range is open shooting for use at no cost. There is a $5.00 fee (kids 17 and under are free) to shoot the 3D animal targets.
We have archery equipment, volunteers and instructors to get you started. Come on out and join us.
It’s a great way to experience the world of archery. Open to all ages.

You’ll want to read today’s list, fun stuff all over and something for everyone. Psst… Daytonites… Your kids are on spring break right now, and Carson has some great ways to keep them entertained. Younger ones will enjoy a trip to the Children’s Museum of Northern Nevada; Tuesdays feature a story and craft activity that’s included with admission. A quick trip to the Galaxy Theater website gets you a rewards card good for Tuesday discount tickets. The Deputy Howell Memorial Musical Festival is holding a volunteer organization meeting tonight at Battle Born Harley.

Flood 2017 Update: Carson City urges residents to use caution during outdoor activities

Due to recent storms and flood events, several parks, trails and open spaces throughout Carson City have sustained more than $2,000,000 in damage, according to city officials.

I hope everyone enjoyed the few hours of sunshine Wednesday, because we’re in for it now. Hopefully, the snow won’t cause as much flooding. I feel compelled to include the disclaimer that all of the following events are subject to change: this storm has the potential to wreak some havoc, so stay safe out there. Kids with cabin fever will enjoy story time at the Carson Library. Adults, get out of the house and enjoy some live music at Living the Good Life or Sassafras. Local McDonald’s restaurants hope to see you this evening: a fundraiser for the family of Ashley Bursey runs from 4 p.m.

How adventurous are you? Ascent Runs continues their Be Bold, Run in the Cold Winter Trail Series with a five or ten kilometer run starting at Centennial Park. If you’d like a less strenuous outdoor activity, then the Downtown Business Association’s monthly Wine Walk is a perfect choice. The wine walk is a rain, snow, or shine event, so bring an umbrella. I’m usually a lover of sunny days, but right now I say bring on the rain. The moisture is a welcome help to our heroic firefighters in Lake Tahoe and Washoe Valley. Because of the wet weather and the recent fires, some activities have been postponed: most notably the Advocates to End Domestic Violence’s Annual Light After Dark Run. There are still plenty of things to occupy your time, but the weather may force more cancellations.

Clear Creek Bowmen Turkey Shoot

The Clear Creek Bowmen are holding their annual Turkey Shoot October 16th 2016.
Location: Centennial Park Archery Range
To clear up what is usually the first question asked: No we are not shooting at live turkeys.
You will be, however, shooting at 35 3D targets, it’s unmarked yardage, but range finders are ok.
This is a “fun shoot.” The prizes will be turkeys and they will be awarded on the flight system. All Cubs and Pewees will receive a game hen.
Registration is from 7:30-8:45 am. Shooting will begin at 9:00 am.

Adult: $20.00
Couple: $25.00

Sunday, Oct. 2: Things to do around Carson City

The weather cools down just as the fun heats up. Fundraisers, contests, food, football, outhouse races and more. Carson Valley Community Theater has one last performance of ‘The Savannah Sippin Society.’ Pooches in costume are welcome at Genoa’s last Sweet Sippin Sunday: there will be a pet parade at 3 p.m. And for all those brides out there's there's a fall wedding faire at Silver Oak Golf Club. Read on: there is something for everyone.

Good luck, Carson City. The options for this weekend are endless, but you can’t be everywhere at once. CASI’s annual Pooch Plunge at the Carson Aquatic Center is always a fun time for your furry friends. Red’s Old 395 welcomes back the THiNK PiNK kick-off to breast cancer awareness month. Downtown you’ll find the wine walk, a rummage sale at the Veterans Memorial Hall, and the Fall Vintage Market at Due Sorella. Toast the season at Fandango: Oktoberfest has returned.
