David and Friends jazz combo will perform at the Nevada Artists Association Gallery, 449 W King Street, Carson City, on Saturday, February 4, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. The live music is part of the Carson City Downtown Business Association Wine Walk, to be held that day from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m.

Joseph Patrick McGuire III Born May 20, 1951 - Died January 12, 2017

Born in Pittsburgh, PA., the second eldest child of Joseph Patrick McGuire Jr. and Sylvia Francis May, Joe spent his early childhood in and around that area, moving often due to his Father’s work.

In 1964, at the age of 13, he and his family moved to Carson City, the Capital of Nevada. It was there, playing in the school band, that Joe had discovered a love of music that would become the muse that he would follow the rest of his life.

The Mile High Jazz Band is canceling its performance tonight (Jan. 10) due to weather conditions affecting several of the performers. However, a combo consisting of several members of the Millennium Bugs and a number of guest performers will perform starting at 7:30 p.m., at Comma Coffee, 312 S. Carson Street, across the street from the state legislature building in Carson City.

Anglers to ring in 2017 at annual Topaz fishing opener

If you’re looking for something to do on New Year’s Day other than sitting on the couch watching football, you should try heading out to the season opener at Topaz Lake. The lake has been closed to fishing since September 30, but it will be open for fishing again on Jan. 1 in one of Nevada's more unique ways to celebrate New Year's Day.

Go Fund Me medical account started for Carson City Strings in the Schools founder Sue Jesch

For many years, Sue Jesch has given her all for string players of all ages. In 2004 she founded Carson City Symphony's Strings in the Schools program, each year providing free instruction for over a hundred students in violin, viola, cello, and bass, donating much of her time and energy.

Now she needs our help. For the past two years, Sue's friends and students have watched her fight increasing weakness, stiffness, and pain. She was recently diagnosed with Parkinson's (or a Parkinson's-like) disease.

Nevada Arts Council grants nearly $50,000 in new artist fellowships

The Nevada Arts Council has awarded nearly $50,000 in grants to 14 Nevada artists selected to receive FY17 Artist Fellowships, executive director Susan Boskoff announced today. From Las Vegas, Reno and Minden, their work includes music, poetry, choreography fiction and non-fiction. In addition, artist Stephan Caplan received a $6,955 grant in the Fellowship Project category for new work.

Lineup for Brewery Arts Center's free summer concert series

The Brewery Arts Center (BAC) in downtown Carson City will be hosting a free summer concert series this year, sponsored by the Mortimer and Mimi Levitt Foundation.

Through the efforts of the BAC, Carson City was one of 15 cities nationwide awarded the concert series for 2016.

The Levitt AMP Carson City Music Series kicks off June 4 and will run every Saturday evening through August 6 with live music starting at 7 p.m. along Minnesota Street next to the BAC. The 10-week music series will include one Friday night show on June 17.

The concert series is free and open to the public.
