Carson City detectives arrest man in West Telegraph Street home burglary
A 30-year-old Dayton man was arrested Tuesday for suspicion of felony burglary after admitting to breaking into a home and attempting to take camera equipment, a Carson City sheriff’s detective said.
Cody William Jeffcoat was taken into custody at a Dayton residence after Carson City officers conducted an investigation in which the man was identified by the victim and finger prints linked him to the burglary.
According to the arrest report, sheriff’s deputies were called Monday, 10:40 a.m. to a burglary in progress in the 900 block of West Telegraph Street. The owner advised they had left the home for a short while and upon returning discovered the suspect, Jeffcoat, inside the residence.
The suspect was in the process of loading up camera equipment in a backpack when the home owner confronted him, according to the arrest report. Jeffcoat fled the scene and left in a small silver pickup parked north on an adjacent street. During the investigation, officers were able to link the suspect’s fingerprints to paperwork found inside the residence, the arrest report states.
On Tuesday, Carson City detectives and Lyon County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the man’s Monti Cristo residence in Dayton. Officers requested to speak with the suspect. They were initially told by the elderly couple inside that he was not there but through further communication the couple agreed to have the suspect come to the front door.
Once outside, officers cuffed Jeffcoat and read him his Miranda rights. He agreed to speak with the detectives who explained to him that he was involved in a burglary at a residence in the 900 block of West Telegraph Street.
Jeffcoat at first denied any involvement in the burglary. Detectives then explained the evidence collected related to fingerprints and witness identification. The suspect then advised that he did break into the residence. He stated that he was loading camera equipment when the owner returned.
He advised he ran out of the house without taking any property and left the scene in his vehicle. He advised that he is currently using heroin and was fired from his job and decided to burglarize the residence upon seeing the victim’s vehicle leave, the arrest report states. Bail: $25,000.

— A 27-year-old Carson City man was arrested Wednesday, 9:13 p.m. in the 7200 block of Schultz Street for a misdemeanor warrant issued Nov. 1, 2016 out of East Fork Township Court. Bail: $3,000.
