Voting underway: USA Today picks Carson City as best travel-worthy state capital city nominee
USA Today readers, who in recent years have picked Tahoe as America's favorite lake and ski destination, now have Carson City as an option to choose in a contest to find the best travel worthy state capital.
Now through Jan. 5, 2015, readers can pick their favorite state capital city destination by casting a vote. Each week USA Today online asks readers to help pick the "10 Best" in a single category which can range from food, lodging and destinations to travel gear and things to do. Travel experts select the 20 top nominees and then readers like you make the final selections.
In its writeup found by clicking here, this is what USA Today 10Best had to say about Carson City:
Carson City, Nevada, a small town of 50,000 (and growing), offers inexpensive lodging and food in a picturesque setting. Among the capital's attractions, often overlooked in favor of the glitz of Vegas, are the governor’s home a couple of blocks off the main street and the Nevada State Museum housed in the old mint where the famous “CC” silver dollars were produced. Lake Tahoe and Reno are nearby, making Carson City an excellent base from which to explore the Sierra Nevada.
