Carson City to hold public information meeting on rifle and pistol range Dec. 12
Due to verified reports involving the likelihood of stray bullets entering into populated areas originating from the discharge of firearms at the Carson City Rifle and Pistol Range, a temporary operating schedule at the range was implemented.
While safety is the city’s priority, the temporary schedule was developed to have as minimal impact to users of the facility as reasonably possible.
The city has requested the assistance of the National Rifle Association (NRA) Range Technical Team to evaluate the facility and provide solutions.
The NRA understands the urgency of this matter and is in the process of assigning a Range Technical Team Advisor to conduct a safety assessment.
In addition, the city’s funding partner, Nevada Department of Wildlife, has requested a second assessment by the National Shooting Sports Foundation.
The city recognizes the significance of the range to the community and appreciates the importance of ensuring that a safe environment is available for staff and the public.
The city will be hosting a public information meeting to provide an update on the range and an opportunity for citizens to share their ideas and ask questions.
There will also be discussion on next steps, including a possible option to develop a citizen/stakeholder working group to help make recommendations into the future.
