Carson City Sheriff's Office winter driving reminder: Defrost windows, reduce speed
While technically still fall, winter conditions are upon us and with it comes winter weather driving. Please drive carefully, reduce your speeds and watch for pedestrians.
Some tips to remember:
— Defrost your windows and clear the snow from your vehicles before driving. Per NRS 484D.435: Windshield and windows must be unobstructed, and that the driver must have a clear view out of all the windows.
— Reduce your speed in bad weather. Per NRS 484B.603: Drivers are required to reduce speeds during inclement weather conditions, even though you may be going slower than the speed limit you may need to slow even further to avoid collisions with others.
— If you are in a fender bender, Per NRS484E.020 requires you to move your vehicle from the roadway to a safe location if you are obstructing traffic or creating a hazard.
By keeping these tips in mind you can reduce your chances of being involved in a crash, reduce your chances of a traffic citation and help to keep our roadways safe through these winter months.
