Ribbon Cutting Tuesday for Northern Nevada’s first Harmony Sculpture Park installed at BAC
Thanks to a generous gift from The Change Place and the volunteer efforts of former Parks and Recreation Director Roger Moellendorf, the Brewery Arts Center in Carson City has just installed the first of its kind in Northern Nevada, Harmony Sculpture Park.
Designed by Freenotes, the Harmony Sculpture Park is comprised of beautiful musical instruments for the outdoors that focus on social sustainability for public spaces.
The grand opening and ribbon cutting will be Tuesday, Nov. 22, 1 p.m. at Brewery Arts Center, 449 West King Street.
BAC hopes this inclusive and wheelchair accessible Park will encourage social participation, improve human performance, promote health and wellness and will be played by all people regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, mobility, visual or auditory limitations or mental ability.
“We know that music creates a gathering force that helps to build community”, says Executive Director Gina Lopez Hill, “these instruments are not only pleasing to the ear, all tuned to sound great together, but also to the eye. The Contrabass Chimes are almost nine feet tall and are quite stunning in appearance.”
The idea for the Harmony Sculpture Park came from Roger Moellendorf who thought the Brewery Arts Center would be a great location for it. When the BAC received funding and the instruments were delivered last month, Roger came out and headed up the effort to install it.
However, there is still room for more instruments and the BAC is hoping others will want to sponsor more instruments to fill out the area.
