Pete Livermore wins over Robin Williamson in Nevada Assembly District 40 race
Carson City Republican Pete Livermore has won the Nevada Assembly District 40 race against Democrat Robin Williamson, costing the party a crucial seat against Republican Governor-elect Brian Sandoval.
Livermore received 51.42 percent of the vote in Carson City and within a sliver of Washoe Valley. Williamson had 48.58 percent of the vote.
"I'm humbled and grateful that so many have shown trust for me," Livermore said. "I'm eager to get started so we can get people back to work."
With all precincts reporting in Carson City and Washoe County, Livermore garnered 8,552 votes to Williamson's 8,081.
"I worked really hard, and had a lot of people who worked really hard to help me, but it just didn't work out," Williamson said.
She called Livermore and offered her congratulations. Williamson and Livermore are current members of the Carson City Board of Supervisors.
Williamson said she looked forward to serving out the rest of her term on the board of supervisors and was happy that Karen Abowd will be taking her place.
Abowd handily defeated Rob Joiner for the Supervisor Ward 1 race, with 54.15 percent of the vote.
The Assembly District 40 seat was considered one of the state's most watched because of the vote margin Democrats would have in the Assembly in getting legislation through a Republican governor. The seat was held by Democrat Bonnie Parnell, who termed out after serving three regular and three special sessions of the Nevada Legislature.
