CARSON CITY — The League of Women Voters of Northern Nevada, in partnership with Sierra Nevada Forums, AAUW Capital (NV) Branch, and the Brewery Arts Center, will present a series of election forums on Oct. 7, 10, 11 and 17 beginning at 6 pm each night at the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall, 511 W. King St in Carson City. Doors open at 5:30 pm. The forums are co-sponsored by the Nevada Appeal.

Carson City’s Year in Review: a look back on 2020 (pandemic free edition)

It was an eventful year around the Carson City region notwithstanding the limitations caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Here's some notable stories that were not pandemic related that happened in 2020.

Nevada Supreme Court certifies 2020 General Election results, Joe Biden wins Nevada

On Tuesday morning during a virtual meeting of the Nevada Supreme Court, the canvass of votes was signed and certified. Joe Biden was officially delegated the winner in Nevada's 2020 General Election for the Office of President.

Board of Supervisors confirms Carson City election results for 2020 general election

The official results from Carson City are in, and every last viable ballot has been counted and added. The election brought out 78 percent of Carson City voters who turned out to cast their ballots.

Carson City Board of Supervisors to certify election results Monday, Nov. 16

The Carson City Board of Supervisors will hold a special meeting on Monday, Nov. 16 beginning at 8:30 a.m. in the Bob Boldrick Theater of the Carson City Community Center to certify election results.

Carson City area 2020 General Election results

Polls for Tuesday's Carson City General Election remained open after 7 p.m. due to a large, last minute crush of voters at the community center. Carson Now will post the results as they become available via the Carson City Clerk-Recorder's Office.

The Elections Department is reporting that 72 percent of registered voters in Carson City cast their ballots in the capital city, a significant increase from previous elections.

Last updated: 10:50 p.m. Tuesday with 25 of 25 precincts reporting, the unofficial results are as follows:

Sena Loyd the smart choice for Assembly (Opinion)

The net proceeds of mining tax is based on a 150-year-old formula written into the state constitution. Mineral extraction is taxed at between 2 and 5 percent of gross revenue, less operating costs. Last year that formula produced revenue equal to just 1.6 percent of gross proceeds.

Assembly candidate Sena Loyd to speak at Carson City Democrats' tele-luncheon

Sena Loyd, candidate for the Nevada State Assembly, District 40, will be the featured speaker at Monday's virtual Democratic luncheon. She became the official Democratic nominee in June's three-way primary, in which she received 47 percent of the vote.

Election Updates as Final Ballots are processed in Carson City and beyond

Election Day was June 9 in Nevada, but due to the nature of this year's mail-in election, ballots were still being received for a week following Election Day.

However, all ballots must have been received by Tuesday, June 16 to be counted, and those that arrived must have been postmarked by June 9.

While final official results will be announced by the Secretary of State's Office on June 19, here is an update:

Carson City's Election Night results announced

Due to the nature of the 2020 Nevada voting procedure, which included a large number of mail-in ballots, these results are not final until June 16th. Mail-in ballots must be postmarked by today, June 9, 2020, to be counted. The clerk's office must receive the postmarked ballots by June 16, 2020 when the results will be finalized.

UPDATE 11:40 p.m.: The Secretary of State's Office updated their election results, stating the first results should now be posted at midnight. The last update stated results were anticipated at 10 p.m.

At 7 p.m., the polls closed throughout Nevada, and as of 9 p.m. results have begun to be announced. This story will be updated as new results come in.

Sena is best known for her years of exemplary service as Carson City's library director, in recognition of which she was named 2017 Nevada Librarian of the Year. She now serves as Director of Research and Workforce Development at Blockchains, LLC.

On Friday, March 13, Carson City resident Sena Loyd filed as a candidate for State Assembly District 40. Loyd, 36 and a registered Democrat, is an information professional currently working in the high-tech industry. Previously she served as the Library Director for the Carson City Library from 2014-2019.

Transgender Woman, Sherrie Scaffidi Announces Her Candidacy for State Assembly District 40

Sherrie Paulie Scaffidi is running for the Nevada Assembly Seat in District 40. Sherrie is a US Navy Seabee, veteran. She is a widower who lost her wife of 42 years to cancer in 2012. Sherrie is the father of three grown children. She lived in Carson City from 1991 to 2005 and happily moved back in 2018.

PK O’Neill announces his candidacy for State Assembly District 40, representing Carson City

PK O’Neill filed late Friday afternoon with the Secretary of State’s Office as a Republican candidate for State Assembly District 40. The District includes all of Carson City, the east side of Washoe Valley and parts of southeast Washoe County.
