Brad Bonkowski has served on the Carson City Board of Supervisors for eight years, and has now decided to step down from the post. He will be replaced by Maurice “Mo” White who won the position in the 2020 general election.

Brad sat down to look back on his time spent in office, and answer five questions relating to his eight years as a supervisor, and what his future plans are.

Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space announced March 18 its update on office and staffing changes, facility closures and program cancelations and postponements due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Carson City outlines department closures, services available in response to coronavirus threat

Carson City officials are continuously monitoring the level of risk of COVID-19 (Novel Coronavirus) to the community. In close coordination with Carson City Health and Human Services, the City Manager’s Office along with City departments in an abundance of caution are coordinating the closure of some offices to take additional measures to slow the spread of respiratory viruses. Carson City Parks Foundation receives National Pony Express donation for disc golf park

As Carson City’s disc golf complex nears completion, the Foundation for Carson City Parks and Recreation’s president, David Johnson, announced that the Foundation recently received a generous donation from the Nevada Division of the National Pony Express Association, for the sponsorship of a hole at the Carson Ridge Disc Golf Park.

Carson City Parks Foundation receives Robert Z. Hawkins grant

Money begets money. And, that statement is true when it comes to the Carson City Parks & Recreation Foundation.

Recently, the Foundation was the recipient of a $20,000 matching grant from the Robert Z. Hawkins Foundation to continue to refresh the Bob Boldrick Theater lobby within the community center that started in February allowing then Chamber Chairman of the Board Bob Fredlund to present the Foundation with a check for $20,300.

Carson City BMX will host the annual Race for Life on Sunday, July 21. USABMX started this race and fundraising effort to honor Todd Kingsbury, a young BMX rider who fought and lost his fight with leukemia.

This race raises money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Additionally, keeping with Todd’s love for BMX, promoting this race where you do not have to be a USABMX member. So please join us on 21 July, with signups 9 to 10 a.m.. Cost is $10. If under 18, please bring a parent to sign forms.

Carson City School District could save millions with purchase of former church campus

UPDATE WEDNESDAY: The Carson City School District Board of Trustees approved last night to send a letter of intent with $50,000 earnest money. The school district will have 90 days to do all the surveys and inspections as well as decide what the campus could be, including another elementary school, middle school, fine arts center or GATE program.

At the Carson City School District Board meeting tonight, Tuesday June 25, Superintendent Richard Stokes will be giving a presentation about a possible acquisition by the school district of the old Capital Christian Center, most recently known as Redemption Church.
