Brad Bonkowski has served on the Carson City Board of Supervisors for eight years, and has now decided to step down from the post. He will be replaced by Maurice “Mo” White who won the position in the 2020 general election.

Brad sat down to look back on his time spent in office, and answer five questions relating to his eight years as a supervisor, and what his future plans are.

The next Carson City Board of Supervisors meeting will be held Thursday, June 4 beginning at 8:30 a.m. in the Sierra Room of the Community Center, located at 851 E. William Street.

On the docket for discussion includes approving contracts of new and current employees, a wastewater agreement with Lyon County, a diesel tax and more.

Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space announced March 18 its update on office and staffing changes, facility closures and program cancelations and postponements due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Carson City officials are continuously monitoring the level of risk of COVID-19 (Novel Coronavirus) to the community. In close coordination with Carson City Health and Human Services, the City Manager’s Office along with City departments in an abundance of caution are coordinating the closure of some offices to take additional measures to slow the spread of respiratory viruses. As Carson City’s disc golf complex nears completion, the Foundation for Carson City Parks and Recreation’s president, David Johnson, announced that the Foundation recently received a generous donation from the Nevada Division of the National Pony Express Association, for the sponsorship of a hole at the Carson Ridge Disc Golf Park.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region packed with excitement over the next three days. Events include the Silver State Art Festival at Fuji Park, suicide awareness walks in Carson City, a Celtic faire at Dangberg Home Ranch, the ninth annual Edible Pedal bike ride at Bowers Mansion, train rides in Virginia City and much more!

Money begets money. And, that statement is true when it comes to the Carson City Parks & Recreation Foundation.

Recently, the Foundation was the recipient of a $20,000 matching grant from the Robert Z. Hawkins Foundation to continue to refresh the Bob Boldrick Theater lobby within the community center that started in February allowing then Chamber Chairman of the Board Bob Fredlund to present the Foundation with a check for $20,300.

As we head into the final stretch of the week, events around the Carson City region are lined up for the next three days, including museum activities, outdoor concerts, a car cruise Friday at Carson Mall, athletic events, a Carson High School class of 1979 reunion, the Taste of Downtown on Saturday and much more.

Carson City BMX will host the annual Race for Life on Sunday, July 21. USABMX started this race and fundraising effort to honor Todd Kingsbury, a young BMX rider who fought and lost his fight with leukemia.

This race raises money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Additionally, keeping with Todd’s love for BMX, promoting this race where you do not have to be a USABMX member. So please join us on 21 July, with signups 9 to 10 a.m.. Cost is $10. If under 18, please bring a parent to sign forms.

UPDATE WEDNESDAY: The Carson City School District Board of Trustees approved last night to send a letter of intent with $50,000 earnest money. The school district will have 90 days to do all the surveys and inspections as well as decide what the campus could be, including another elementary school, middle school, fine arts center or GATE program.

With the weather reaching the mid-80s, now is the perfect time to get out and explore during a jam-packed three days around the Carson City region. Friday has plenty of events to get you to the weekend.

On April 13-14, 2019 the Comstock Shootout Tournament was held at Pete Livermore Sports Complex in Carson City.

After 1 loss and 1 win, the Carson Futbol Club U16 Girls team "BOOM" made it into the final championship game for their age group. With a win of 2-1, BOOM earned the 2019 U16 Girls Comstock Shootout championship.

Members from both the Carson City and Douglas County sheriff's offices came together Tuesday for high-speed vehicle training course at the Pete Livermore Sports Complex.

Youth ages four to 15 gathered at the Pete Livermore Sports Complex in Southeast Carson City Saturday with their families, coaches, referees and league volunteers to begin the American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO) Fall season.

Smoky skies did little to deter youth BMX racers from taking to the dirt racing track located at Pete Livermore Sports Complex off South Edmunds Drive in Carson City.

Nearly 50 members of the community gathered to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Carson City Cultural Commission on Friday at Bliss Mansion.

Carson City Public Works, Parks and Recreation personnel and emergency managers have been working on flood prone areas throughout Thursday and will continue to do so until the storm is over, officials said this afternoon.

Valerie Sue Meyer, who started with Carson Futbol Club at age 11, says the club prepared her for three successful varsity seasons at Carson High School and her next step — college soccer.
