Carson City man jailed for allegedly hitting man with weighted sock with lock inside
A 37-year-old man was arrested early Tuesday for suspicion of felony battery with a deadly weapon and parole and probation violation, a Carson City sheriff's booking report states.
Richard Ruiz was taken into custody in the 1800 block of North Carson Street at 12:40 a.m. According to the arrest report, deputies were dispatched to the area for a fight. Deputies arrived and met with the victim who stated Ruiz came to his door, claiming he owed him money.
The victim said the man appeared to be under the influence of drugs and commented something about a woman, the report states.
The victim said the man began to swing a weighted down sock at him, hitting him in the left elbow. The victim gave a description of the man, who he said was short, and had red or burgundy pants on with a white hooded sweatshirt. The victim stated he wished to press charges, the report states.
Officers located a man who fit the description, Ruiz, a block away from the incident. Ruiz stated he was not in a fight with anyone. The witness identified the man who hit him and filled out a citizen's arrest form.
Officers place Ruiz into custody. During a search they located a sock with a lock in it, which is known as a "smiley" weapon, often used by gang members to hit people, the report states. Dispatch advised Ruiz was on parole and probation. The alleged incident was in violation of his probation. No bail hold.
In other arrests:
— A 48-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Monday at a Castle Way residence for suspicion of misuse of 911 emergency dispatch, a gross misdemeanor offense.
According to the arrest report deputies were dispatched at 8:45 a.m. to a Castle Way residence for a welfare check. Dispatch advised the caller and her roommate had been in a verbal dispute, which had been ongoing for the past couple days and wasn't physical. Dispatch also advised the woman had called 911 at 6:06 a.m. Monday for the same non-emergency call.
Deputies made contact with the woman who advised she called 911 because she and her roommate were arguing. The woman advised the argument was not physical. Due to the woman calling twice for the same non emergency in less than 12 hours, she was placed under arrest for misuse of 911. Bail: $2,500.
— A 35-year-old man was arrested early Tuesday in the 1700 block of North Carson Street for a misdemeanor warrant alleging violation of a suspended sentence issued Sept. 16, 2020 out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $3,000.
