Hacienda Market and Grill now open in Carson City
After a months-long remodel that began earlier this spring, the Hacienda Market and Grill opened its doors to customers on Aug. 25, owner Elsa Kinzie said.
The soft opening precludes a larger grand opening planned for later in September, she said, after all of the final touches to the store have been completed.
Located at 2270 E. William Street within the Plaza 50 Shopping Center, Hacienda Market and Grill occupies about 8,000 square-feet of grocery and restaurant space, according to the Hone Company, which manages the shopping center property.
Besides a full-service supermarket featuring a bakery and meat department, Hacienda also includes a hot-foods deli with a full menu of prepared meals and cafe-style seating for those who prefer dine-in to take-out.
Kinzie said the store is exceeding her expectations, and she has been pleased with the community's response since the soft opening.
"This is exactly what I have envisioned," she said. "Carson is a small community where everybody knows each other. We're like one big family."
The goal all along, said Kinzie, was to create a friendly, personable all-around shopping experience and not just open another store.
"My goal is for to have an experience shopping here, where they don't feel stressed and the environment is inviting," she said. "We want to make things easier for everybody, because we all lead such busy lives."
Not only is the food from the grill prepared fresh and ready to eat, but so are the meats and baked goods in grocery.
Meats -- many of which have already been carefully marinated and specially seasoned -- can also be cooked to your liking at no charge, ready to eat as soon as you get home, Kinzie said.
"We have fresh prepared food," she said. "It's already made, and you can have a full meal to take home ready to eat."
In addition to freshly prepared food from the grill and the grocery store, Hacienda also features a large back patio that can be reserved for private parties.
The outdoor space -- dressed with decorative pavers that will support a bar, grill, fire pit and heat lamps -- will also make for an ideal venue for formal store-sponsored activities, such as daily happy hours from 4-6 p.m. and wine tasting twice a month, Kinzie said.
Kinzie, a long-time small business owner in the area, recently came out of a ten-year retirement to open Hacienda Market and Grill, which represents to her a way of reinforcing the sense of community she has always felt in Carson City.
"I want this to be a community gathering place where people can come, feel comfortable, and have a pleasant, relaxing shopping experience where everything's clean, the food is prepared fresh, and the prices are fair," she said. "People can do everything in one location."
Kinzie said she is hopeful that her business, along with others that have opened recently, will help to continue reinvigorating the Plaza 50 Shopping Center following the closure several years ago of the former Scolari's and Sak 'N Save supermarkets.
"This is the greatest location, and this will be a really great shopping center for people," she said.
